Old Arias had great upper fret access. Migh tbe hard to find in that price range, but should be available not too far outside.

Gonna second this. Schecter makes a great bass. Here is my former bass. $630 new, probably $500 max for a used one.I have the Schecter C4. You can find them used for under $350. Quilted top on Mahogany body, active electronics with EMG pickups. This bass is amazing for the price.

It looks freakishly cool, which may or may not fit into particular situations. Those basses are made out of Luthite, not wood, which may or may not be appealing. They quit making them, FWIW. Only way to know is to play it.Any opinions on this one?
