"Affordable" 24 Fret Basses?

I'm looking for a 24-fret bass where those high frets are pretty accessible.

Under $500 max.

Used SR300 up to SR500, lots of used available for under $500. Very good access to upper frets, light, balanced, and well made. No brainer.

The easy access to the upper frets is tougher to find than something in that range. For something new, I'll second the Ibanez suggestion.

If I recall, my Ibanez SR506 was just a tad over $200 used. Needed a new set of tuners but was fine otherwise. It's a killer axe. I presume since you said "bass" you mean one with 4 strings. For me the 24 fret thing is what I seek on all 6 string basses because the two octaves on the C string just rolls around my brain nicely. I'm trying to think if any of my 5 strings have 24 frets, but I don't think they do except for my Carvin AC50.

If you want new, the Sire M3 is very hard to beat, a great value. And great high fret access. Here's mine:

Schecter, several models with 24 frets with decent access and a good radius. Some just within your budget if buying new, even more within if buying used.

I have the Schecter C4. You can find them used for under $350. Quilted top on Mahogany body, active electronics with EMG pickups. This bass is amazing for the price.

Schecters are phenomenal basses at affordable prices. They really are worth more than you'll pay for them.

Also Ibanez SR series basses and Yamaha TRBX series.

EDIT: Check out Sweetwater's site, you can actually search by number of frets, then sort the results by price. Of course, the results are exactly like I said (also has Toby and Jacksons)

This appears to be similar to the one I had.
Neck profile isn't for everyone, little narrow and thin. I liked it a lot

The Sire and the Schecter are nice, but they're not as comfortable as an Ibanez when you get to frets 22, 23, and 24.

Pretty much all of the SRs are cut like this. Slimmer necks also help when you're up by the heel.

+1 to the Ibanez soundgear bass suggestions. The rounded neck heel makes upper fret access nice and comfy, plus they are great basses for the price.

Used Carvin LB70. Pretty deep cutaway, and as a neck through, very easy transition to the high frets
