After Gig ramp down

Arrive home at 02:00. Wake the wife up for a quick poke. Asleep by 02:05!

:laugh::laugh: Love it! That would work for me but waking my wife up at 2 AM is NEVER a good idea ;)

For some reason this reminded me of an old Buddy Hackett joke, with language cleaned up. (Slight derail warning)

A man is having romantic relations with his wife.
He hears some additional breathing.
He looks up to see the dog staring at him.
The dog lets out a big yawn.
The man says "sorry I'm boring you".
The wife says "that's ok".

Now back to our regularly scheduled program... :D

My band does casinos and outdoor festivals. 60 to 90 minute sets and we are almost always finished by 10 PM. The majority of the gigs are over an hour from my house so I usually get a room. After the gig, I'll have a couple of drinks and then go to bed between midnight and 1 AM. I rarely have trouble sleeping after a gig, but usually wake up around 6 AM and head home.

Bass masters! Have you ever got home from a gig at 3 AM and you are all ramped up from the gig and just cannot sleep?? I try and relax to some old soft rock like "what a fool believes" and a 6 pack. But man all that rock and roll and a adrenaline keeps a cat up at night! Some of you are home in bed by 10!
dang

That's what Denny's is for....big breakfast, read the early paper, go home and sleep........till noon.

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I was like this. I would be so tired I could hardly drive home from a gig then get to bed and stare at the ceiling for 2 hours.

The being tired was not caused by playing gigs but from being young and burning the candle at both ends. Out drinking/ chasing girls every night then up for work at 06:00.

Oh to be young again, or maybe not.
I barely drink anymore, and the ladies would have to grab me by the nostrils to get my chase em attention.
I'll be worn out from load in, amped from performing, and then the load out wears on me. Come home, flop on the couch and stare into space. Maybe it's some kinda mental meditation download thing. I should eat something, cause now that I'm older that always seems to knock me out after a meal.

I am 53 and now am exhausted on a Friday after a day of work and a gig. I do take about 45 mins to wind down but still can sleep. On Sat if if I had a good days sleep from the night before... I may need a 1/2 xanax to fall asleep. They are prescribed, I probably need 1 every 6 weeks. My bigger problem is Sunday... I am shot from 2 nights of gigs... I am up about noon on Sunday and do very little physical work that day.

While I'm not as mobile as I used to be, I'm still up a lot. I average six hours of sleep every twenty four so I'm always up it seems. When I play and we will be finishing late, I don't eat for a few hours prior to going to work and only water while we play. Once done, I get loaded out as quick as possible, then hang around and help everyone else get loaded, make sure they get cranked and gone before I head out. Once I'm headed home I look for a place to get some food. Since it's fast food who cares, the closer to my route the better and extra points for not having to get out of the vehicle to get it. When I get home whatever needs to be dragged in gets dragged in, then get a (very) quick shower and sit down with my food and start a movie. Somewhere between downing the food and the end of the flick I'll drift off to sleep. I'll sleep there for an hour or so then get up and go to bed.

If the drive is very long I'll just skip the junk food detour and get something when I get home. Anything more than a very light snack and I can get droopy if I've been pushing my hours so I skip the temptation to ride down the road eating a bag full of sleep potion after four AM.

Too often one of my kids needs to be at a sporting event by 8 or 9 am. I'll just pull an all nighter. Get home by 2 or 3 at the latest, leave everything the van in the garage. After the dog freaks out, I change clothes, make a sandwich and grab a coke. Chill out to some mellow tunes at the computer. Lighting effects on in the den, of course. Around 5 or 6, depending on the season, I will pop outside and catch a moon set if I'm lucky, then a sun rise. Make some coffee and enjoy the day...Day 2 is for another thread.

A couple of cones and a YouTube lecture (Vernon Bogdanor or Christopher Hitchens) usually does the trick. No music.

I'm so fired up after a gig that I can't sleep either. The only thing that does it is listening to the classical station on the way home. That usually works do me down so by 3:30 or so I can fall asleep.

Ooch! I better get over being shot out of a cannon after a gig. Just looked at my schedule, and I've got a gig tomorrow from 7:30-10 pm with a 90 minute drive, then I have to drive 90 minutes Sunday morning at 8 for a noon-6 casino cruise, but at least on that we only do a half hour on the way out and an hour coming in and I can get a nap in between :D

Hi,

sadly alcohol , which is pure sugar , makes things worse ... !! unless you actually pass out .. ?!

and alcohol , sodas , or any fruit drinks thru the night contain lots o sugar ...

boring as it is ... if you gotta get to sleep , and get up ( i played 6 nights a week and worked 5 days a week for a couple decades ) ... drink water ... maybe some sleepy time type of herbal tea when you get home ..!? chamomile type stuff ...

i read about meditating and breathing to help slow down your brain/body ...

but some nights , puking and passing worked fine .. ! except i was still drunk when i got to work the next AM !

Ha! BTDT,GTTS!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
