Aggie Vs. Bart preamps HELP!!!

Hey guys I recently swapped out an audere preamp for an aggie in my new roscoe that I was fortunate enough to get used at a great price. I like the aggie better than the audere, more grit and such but I am not getting the full round even sound I heard from other roscoes I tried in other stores. personally I believe this is because those basses all had bartolini preamps. In addition I have an aggie in another one of my basses which I have never really been happy with, I am starting to think I may just not like the sound of aguilar preamps. Also does anyone know the differance between a bart ntmb and tct preamp, all comment would be appreciated.

I think the NTMB is the 3-band preamp with the selectable mids and the TCT is the older bare bones two band.

I have seen tct pre amps with three band, do they sound any different tonally?

FWIW I've had the Aguilar OBP-1 and the Bart NTBT (2-band, not 3).

I found the Aguilar to be pretty transparent. Low boost was massive & tight, high boost was sharp but organic, like glass.

By comparison, the Bartolini seems a little more colored, a little dirtier & cruder but in a good way.

They're both great IMO. I'd use Aguilar if I wanted something clean & dynamic and the Bartolini if I wanted that Bartolini flavor (which seems to complement the Bartolini pickups well for some reason... )

so if i am a player who likes a little more color and tone shaping from my preamp you think bart pres are the way to go, also do you know the differance between the tct an ntmb.

I would actually try emailing Roscoe Basses and ask them what they think. After all they made the bass and probably have a reason they use all Bart systems. If you are looking for the "Roscoe" tone find out what pre is in the model Roscoe you have and get it.

I'd definitely recommend posting in the Roscoe forum (under the 'Sponsored' section) for some input on this. Lots of great folks there who can offer a wealth of information about the sound from various pickup & preamp options on Roscoe basses. Good luck!
