Aggressive P/J pups

I have a 2004 Precision with S-1 and DiMarzio Model P, and the switch still works fine with the DM. I think it's standard four conductor wiring that allows easy series/parallel switching.

And, in response to the initial request for suggestions about an aggressive P/J combination, I would go with DiMarzio. I have just the Model P, and it's very aggressive, with lots of cut. It's great for hard rock on its own, and adding a Model J certainly can't hurt. I wouldn't want this pickup if it were my only P bass, but I have a '94 MIJ P that nails the vintage tone, so this is a great complement for a punk/hard rock tone.

Some have complained about low output on the E string with the Model P (see Luknfur's awesome P pickup experiment). I thought this was a problem through one rig I used, but with my "mini" rig of GK 700RB-II and Neo112 at a gig last week, I had boatloads of punch from all strings. Not a problem at all.

What brand pickups do you have in this guitar? Does it only have a P in it or does it also have another pickup in it?

Really? I've had two basses now with DM Model Ps (love this pup) and definitely have never had problems with the E string output.

My MIJ Foto Flame has the stock Fender P pickup only. These MIJ pickups are excellent, and I've seen them used for $20! The 2004 Am. Ser. P has the DiMarzio Model P only.

It's DiMarzio's Model P. That's what it's called.

The Dimarzio PJ Set has a heavy midrange emphasis, great value for money pickup set.

Agreed. I just put a set of these in a bass I built and was amazed at the tone and growl. VERY bawlsy! Hell of a deal!

Do you have a comparason of this pickup to Bartolini's P 8S?

No, but I have a bass on the way to me (will be here tomorrow) with Bart 72M55C's on the way. I will compare those two. I tell ya, the Dimarzio is like have a P pickup on steroids! I just got rid of an American P and I can say without a doubt that the Dimarzio has substaintially more bite and growl over a stock P pickup. I love the tone on this pickup. I let you know how it fairs against the Barts over the weekend.
