What is up with saying that people should agree to disagree? It bugs me like crazy! Its totally pointless!

It makes sense to agree that a conclusion cant be reached at the moment and that you dont want to argue but why agree to disagree? If you agree do you say lets disagree to disagree? Why not just say "I think your wrong and I'm not gona back down from my opinion"?

No, it's not. It means I acknowledge your viewpoint, but I also acknowledge that we're not going to agree.

There is this concept called "courtesy". There's a connection to it.

Not quite. Relativism says everyone is right. Agree to disagree says "I think you're wrong, but we can ignore the issue and be friends anyway." This is much better...and real "tolerance."

Meh. Agree to disagree sounds a lot like "whatever man, every one can have an opinion" to me.
