Aguilar AG700 vs Mesa WD800

Im looking for a versatil sound. I might add a few pedals (distorsion, octaver and some basic sounds) I love to play rock, but, I might also play some latin/mexican music (cumbia and norteño) not my type of music, but, there,'s where the money is.
I already have an Aguilar AG700 but I found a Mesa DW800 for less than $800 and Im considering to sell my Aguilar.
What would you do?

I personally would like to try out a WD800 mainly to see the difference between it and the TT800.

I did get to try out an AG700 once and while I hear people describe it as clean, there is an inherent growl and color to it that I liked very much.

I had a Tonehammer 500 once and I can say I like the AG700 better. I would still prefer to get the WD800 first just to scratch that itch.

Both great amps but if versatility is important, I'd say the WD800's additional EQ abilities with give you a wider range of tonal possibilities. Also a better chance at finding THE tone.

Disclaimer: I have and love a WD800 and a TH350 but have never heard the AG700. That said, and since you're soliciting opinions........if I liked the tone of both equally, the onboard HPF, 5 year warranty, aux in/phones out, tube preamp, 2 Ohm stability and rack mount option would easily put the Mesa on top for me .....and I waaaaaaay prefer the classic Walkabout style front end to the Aggie controls.

That's a lot of extra goodies for only 100 bucks more. The 5 year warranty might be worth that alone. You get an extra 100 watts too.

If you didn't have the AG already my answer might be different, but I'd make some $$ playing Latin music on it, have a fantastic time, and punt on this decision. I'd go cab shopping instead.

I think you have a much better chance nailing the AG's tone with the WD than nailing the versatility of the WD with the AG. If the AG's tone is the Holy Grail, that's fine but you may find yourself in another band someday and the WD will likely do the job whatever they play.

Looking forward to the review. Semi-parametric EQ might take some getting used to, unless you've had one before.

I was using an old agro with my AG700.
AG700 is like a clean AG500SL and my rackmount agro were the same circuit as a AG500 second channel. so, is like having a 700watts AG500

Nice! I had the AG500SC, so it's the clean tone I'm most interested in comparing.

I've had a number of heads including aggies. I found a great one in my WD800. I love that it has a dial-in option for damping, high pass filter and tons of other goodies. You can get a nice tubey sound with damping (low). high pass @ 9 PM, gain @ 3PM to nicely heat that pre-amp tube. I love this head.. you will not regret it ..

I've been using an AG700 for years now. I bought a D800 when they came out, to compare, and kept the AG700. I'd be interested in this comparison to the WD800.

I got my Mesa WD800 last week and is impressive. I dont play live but it has a wide tone range that Aguilar AG700 just dont has.
I really like mesa better than aguilar, but nothing sounds as good as a mesa titan V12
I play a 92 fender P with flats and a 94 fender P with rounds.
Im in the process of building a custom case to setup my WD800 and my agro, but somebody broke in my car last night and stole my tools. (This is the 6th time, police refused to go to my home, so I just filed a report to tax deduct my loss at the end of the year.
I will post a picture as soon as I finish my case. I have tweed and chrome corners for my case, but I might go with a red wine tolex and leather corners. Not sure yet.

Like a lot of bassists on here, I am considering the AG700 or the Mesa/Boogie Subway 800+. Yes, the Mesa Boogie comes with the bag and has a 5-year warranty. BUT, what's been your experience with the AG700? What cab(s) do you use? How often do you play? Have you had any problems with the AG700? What type of music is it "best" for? I am a 2x15 cab guy and therefore, looking at the SL115 (pair). I am a blues rock-improv guy. The needle from this thread points to the Mesa because you get another 100 watts, a bag, and a 5-year warranty. I welcome any insights on your experience with the AG700. Thanks in advance, Bill
