Aguilar DB speaker differences

I am looking at the DB212, two DB 112's, or two SL 112's. I like more of a mid punch of the DB series.

DB212: I like you can put casters on the bottom and just wheel it out. I also like that it is 28 pounds lighter than the four 10. Looks more impressive on stage over the two DB112's since it has a wider cabinet.

Two DB112's: You get two tweeters to work with your setup. You have the choice of bringing just one cabinet for a small gig or both if needed.

SL112's: They are much lighter than the DB112's. It's all about the weight! Not sure what a difference in sound it has compared to the DB series.

I welcome your thoughts on this matter.

FYI, you can get a 'non tweeter' one-way DB112 (NT version) to make the '2 x db112 stack a bit more like the DB212. Actually, based on what I've learned from the EE's on the site, that is actually a better way to go (i.e., a single tweeter with a non-tweeter extension cab.

I have not played the SL cabs (they are reported to be tonally between the wide, scooped GL112 and the mid punchy DB, but I can't say for sure).

I LOVE the DB112's... just a deep as the GL's, but with much more mid presence, and a nicer transition from the top of the driver to the tweeter, making the tweeter sound less harsh, even though the components of the GL an DB 12 cabs are identical.

Those SL's look nice though, and most who have tried them with the TH500 seem to dig them a lot.

TBer Diglo is giggin a TH500/SL112 x 2 stack I believe, so you might PM him.

IMO, the SL is not between the DB and GS - it is brighter than the DB - so I think the DB sits between the GS and the SL. The GS has a big bottom and not much mids, the DB has more mids than the GS, and the SL has less low-mids than the DB, but more upper-mids (think 500-800Hz range). I think the DB sounds better than the SL, but the selling point for the SL is the light weight - it is *ridiculously* light!

Thanks... makes sense. That more upper mid push of the SL would probably match up well with the TH500. However, that DB112/TH500 is WONDERFUL to my ear. Dug those cabs with my old Thunderfunk also.

DB 212 owner here. I think it is a very nice sounding cab. It is heavy, and the casters are a little small for the cab... I've had to replace mine, but I ride em pretty hard too. I like the form factor of the cab. I feel it's just the right size. Not too big for really small gigs, and not to small for really big gigs. This cab has got some juice behind it for sure.

I like the idea of the 2-112 rig. I have a 2-115 rig and the portability / modularity is nice, but I don't see myself doing much beyond practice with a single 12. To me the DB212 is a nice middle between my 115 and my 2-115 stack. Although to be honest, I havent really used my 15s since getting the DB212. I feel like the DB could handle anything that I might want the 215 for.

Not sure about this two tweeter business, but whatever butters your bread. I have the tweet on my DB212 off all the time, and never miss it.

The DB112 is a very nice cab, but it is woolier than the HD112 (less clear?). Its tone wasn't my cup of tea.

One other thing to consider, the DB112 is one of the most difficult 1x12 boxes to lug around.

From what I've heard the HD112 sounds a tiny bit scooped due to the low end being quite dominant.

DB 112 / 212 wins for me.

Why pay for 2 tweeters? You do not need both. One cuts like crazy.

I agree. 70lbs is a major lift factor. Even though a pair of 1x12's weigh more, you can carry them one at a time. Much easier IMHO.

Though the lift is heavy, with wheels it would be easier to transport all the way to the stage compared to carrying two 45 pound 12's which you have to carry. The 212 you would push it with its wheels all the way to the stage with the TH500 on top

Years ago I bought a flat carpeted platform with four nice wheels from Carvin. Roughly the footprint of a 4x10 cab. I have stacked a pair of 112 cabs on it, 410 cab, and other stuff. Very portable and rolls great.

Disagree. I find it easy to lug around. I don't know why people keep saying so. Compared to my old Baer ML112's (which were lighter by ~8lbs), the DB's are an easier carry. If you get the DB's, put the metal feet on the opposite side of the handle so you can put the cab down w/o damaging the tolex.

Well, the article also claims this "....Pairing the Tone Hammer 500 with a Glockenklang Space Deluxe 112 created so much sound that I could fill a 700-seat theater without PA support". So 250watts (TH500 at 8ohms) and a single 8ohm Glock 12" cab can fill a 700 seat venue Not everything you read, hear, or see is true.....especially if found on the internet or from any publication that makes money selling adverts. Just sayin'

I have played bass in very large church and even the combo Eden amp is loud enough but not recommended. It always sounds better having the bass go through the house system with its sub woofers.

I have played the 500 wi a single SL 12 and it does lack a solid bottom end. I would like to hear it with two SL 12's stacked though as I am sure it would sound better.

I have a DB212 (4 ohm) and I absolutely love it.

It sounds fantastic, looks the part, and it is well made. Great attention to detail with the styling.

I have yet to find a cab I prefer over the Aguilar DB sound.

I would love a DB112 for small gigs but I use my TC RS210 for those.

Yes I agree. I have not tried the SL series yet but the Thunderfunk and 2 DB12's is totally amazing. I like the DB series alot. You can get a nice full bottom yet with the mid presence it becomes very articulate. It is there heaviest and largest single 12 cabinet but if weight isn't the main issue I say go with the DB's.
