Aguilar GS112 Review #1

, thats awsome!I use the Aguilar GS112 with the Markbass Little Mark II and I think it's an awesome combination.

I am still digging the GS112, but I think if I add another cab it'll be tweeterless - I get a nice bit of needed sizzle from the tweeter but it really broadcasts string noise. I'll either get a GS112NT or maybe a Hartke 210XL. I am digging how the GS112 sounds with my Hartke 410XL quite a bit so I may go that route. I am still undecided, though.
Played a gig last night with my 3 aggie 112 rig. The place is kind of med/small sized club with a nice beer garden. We played in the back of the club with the only 2 exits/entrances being at the front. First of all, the club is right outside the city limits so they allow smoking while all the clubs in town are now enjoying the new smoking ban.
Also the local radio station was doing a remote broadcast from the club. Needless to say the place was packed from the time I got there till the very end. load in and out was a major pita but the aguilar Gs112's made it easy. I was able to lift them over my head and work my way through the crowd. Also my rig filled the room with great bass tone. Several local musicians stopped by and I got plenty of compliments. I couldn't be happier with my rig.

I went to a Memorial and Benefit for Pat and Paul Nigro recently and on stage they had (2) GS112's for the bass rig. This was the first time I had seen these cabs in use in public and they sounded great. I only used mine once for a private party and it was overkill for the situation.
BTW, at the Memorial Jeff Pevar and John Larson were incredible, among others.

I just purchased a GS112 to add to my SWR 350 redface and Tech Soundsystems 212. the tech soundsystems is a schroeder like cabinet with only one speaker showing. The gs112 added bottom and tone to my rig but also let my SWR run at 4 ohms. I've read on talkbass and experienced myself that the 350 loves being run at 4 ohms. I took it out to a jam with 2 guitarists, drummer and harp player and 2 singers. Had no trouble keeping up to this loud scenario. Had a lot of comments on how clear it sounded. The major change was the gs112. I am planning to replace the SWR with a Mesa Boogie Walkabout in the very near future.
My main rig is an Aguilar 680/728 into two Aguilar 112's. Other than the weight of the preamp/poweramp and the shockrack, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! I couldn't ask for a better sounding rig.
Two of the Aggi 112's really is incredible! Great sound and really portable compared to a larger cabinet.

I noticed most people buy the GS112 & the GS112NT combo as opposed to two GS112's. I bought two GS112's thinking, I could always turn the other tweeter down and if I need to grab one, I could grab either one, or if I left one at practice or at a friends house for jamming, the other one was always available for a small gig.

I have one 112 now that I run with the tweeter off. It's brilliant! I have a second one on layby at the moment. When it turns up it will have the tweeter turned off as well. I love the gs112, but the tweeter sucks. Haven't seen any of the NT versions here in Oz.

2 GS 112's arrived yesterday. The pair blows my 410 HLF Ampeg out of the water in punchy bass and solid response. I am coupling them with TH500 and could not be happier. The horn on the HLF is nice because I take bass solos, use envelope filters and octave pedals etc. it's a really clear sounding tweeter and I was worried about losing that when switching to 2 12" speakers and a lot of guys say they turn the second tweeter (bottom cab) all the way down but as far as my needs I've found a pretty sweet sound with both tweeters around 2/3 the way up so far. (still yet to gig with 'er which may sway my opinion, but for now it's sounding NICE) I'm sold on this cab combo and I totally bought it without even hearing them by reading recommendations from players on this site. With all that said, I had to try one cab vs 2 and it's definitely a totally different animal as some on this thread have said. I'm just not happy with the sound of one compared to two... That's the pro sound I've heard from my idols and shakes the house. The single cab is a really tight, aggressive kind of TOO pristine, while the second cab adds air and girth to the equation and gets you the full pro sound. (Makes me wonder what 3 would do!!!) Can't go wrong with these. I was kind of bumme dI couldn't afford the 25 lb SL's but the sound and grins I've got in the last 24 hours keep me from looking back. LAst comment here is that One thing I like about the HLF was that dolly wheeling in and out of places which make it nice for long hauls from the car to the venue. Im curious to see how much wear having to carry two 42 lb cabs will put on me, but I think if ya take one at a time and use both hands I'll notice less pain that trying ot maneuver a 110 lb beast of ouf a Toyota Camry and up a stage by myself. Those days are over! At the end of the day, if your in a rush, I can now throw my bass on my back, tone hammer in my small gig bag over my shoulder and a GS112 in each hand and show up to the gig in one trip and sound THIS good. That's whatsup.
