Aguilar Super Doubles - who knows stuff?

The video sounds great, but of course it's a little hard to judge without a reference point to compare to and information about the EQ, etc. What are your firsthand impressions?
just so theres no confusion, that wasnt my video. found it on youtube.
however, i just did install the super doubles. heres what the coil looks like next to a fodera/duncan dual coil
the aguilar coil is squatter and around 5k a coil vs 10k per coil on the duncan.
there is less midrange information compared to the duncans. less low/hi mids and fartiness but more presence up top. theyre closer to the dcb than the duncan. if youre familiar with the dcb, imagine it with a little more burp and grit and you have this pickup. not really night and day different like the duncan dual coil compared to a dcb.
however, i just did install the super doubles. heres what the coil looks like next to a fodera/duncan dual coil

Sorry about the confusion about the video, narud! That wasn't really how I pictured you, but I hadn't run across that video before (despite a lot of searching).
And thanks for the feedback on the Aguilars vs. the Duncans. I knew the intention was for the Super Doubles to be generally more aggressive than the DCBs, but it sounds as if they're not so different as I was expecting.
Do you know if those Duncans are anything like the Duncan NYCs?

i havent ever been able to try the nyc's since theyre only available in the emg route. theres enough similarities (coil construction and dcr) that they should sound similar, but enough differences (alnico 2 and slightly wider aperture) that they wont be the same.
I could be making a mistake because I don't want them to get sold out, but these pick ups are now available at bestbassgear as of last night.

I have a set of Nordstrand Dual Coils(Parallel wound) in a Warmoth Gecko 5. Each pickup can split from Series/Single Coil/Parallel. The bass is super versatile and sounds great in both split and non-split. My favorite setting is SC because my main basses are J's with both pickups at 100%. It doesn't sound exactly like a J but it comes close.
I emailed them about it and this is what they answered:
"The Super Doubles are not be split-able. The reason for this is that we want to make the best sounding pickup possible. To accomplish this for a single coil pickup you need a specific amount of wire on the bobbin for it to sound ideal. When you add a second coil for a hum canceling pickup, the total amount of wire affects the sound. So, if you have the right amount on each coil to make up a good sounding hum canceling pickup, it will be too little amount of wire when you “split” the pickup. If you put the right amount of wire on a single coil design and then add a second coil, you’ll have too much wire on the pickup. The worst thing would be changing the amount wire on bobbins and making a pickup that sounds bad both split and non-split. Some people have done this, we don’t want to join them!"
I think it actually makes sense. The way the're marketing these pickups is that they are kind of a middle point between the DCB and the Super Singles. Would love to see a demo vid soon.

got a nordstrand 3 band installed in my bass yesterday with the super doubles. terrible iphone 4 video of some noodling. first half is bridge only. second half 50/50
Suonds good! The bridge pickup seems to have plenty of fullness, not just midrange honk, and both pickups together keep some bite on the top. They're definitely not as aggressive sounding as some pickups, they're not entirely hi-fi either.
They have been in stoc at bestbassgear since June in case you wanted to purchase a pair.

So how do the Super Doubles compare to series wound Nordstrand duals?
i dont particularly like carey's duals so i like the ags better. they have more of that spongey sound i look for. the aperture on careys pickups is narrower than the ags or duncans and i can hear it. the series wound nords sound narrower and more focused and closer to a j pickup to my ear than a humbucker.
Hadn't considered Duncan but I really like that NYC with the 3-way toggle. Single coil, series, and parallel all sound good but different - very useable. Wonder if the John East preamp would pair well with it?
I just bought as of these Aguilar a Super dual coils. I Haven't installed them yet. They are not fixed in the covers so what's the best way to mount these and keep the pups inside the case? Glue, foam, both??
