Aguilar Tone Hammer 350

Sold my TH500....no need for the FX loop. I ordered the 350 as a replacement. Kinda giddy I'm getting an amp that is smaller and lighter than the 500. Playing the 500 out blows peoples mind. They cant believe that so much sound comes from something that compact....wait till they see the 350!! I have yet to push the 500 into 8ohms. The power difference at 8ohms is a mere 50 watts. At 8ohms, I should hear little difference (if any) with the 350. Since I am only using one 8ohm Baer ML112, the 350 makes perfect sense. If I was using 2 cabs at 4ohms and needed sheer volume, the 500 would be better choice. But for players using an 8ohm load, I think the 350 is a better choice given the price point....assuming you dont need the FX loud. The extra 50watts (at 8ohms) will cost you $200. Again, the extra wattage at 4ohms might be worth the extra $$. But 8ohms, get the 350 and save some $$.

Wow... I just bought the th 350 with the db 212 and the tone and headroom is better than I thought. Warm, punchy, deeep lows, and still barely moved the master knob. It is very versatile and shakes my house. I decided on upgrading from the ampeg ba300 210 because it was way too rattly and lacked the deep low end. Ampeg does have that amazing warm tubiness but I am very surprised with this solid state amp and would have sold the ampeg all over again. I never thought I could love solid state! Great for recording. Feels like 600 watts.

I'm sure it is a great little head. However, unless you are on a really tight budget, or really never, ever had to really pump, I see little reasons to choose the 350 over the 500. The 500 is small and almost featherweight.

I would think the 350 would be more of a niche product. IMO.

Fair observation. Some users seem to be suggesting this little amp pumps as well, however. Almost as if this could have a 500 moniker.

I again find the TH500 to perform similarly to other 500 watt heads that I own or have owned. Nice head, surely nothing 'amazing' about the power output. It performs as expected to my ear, and from my direct comparison to other similarly rated products.

Again, nice box, and IMO and IME the TH500 performs as one would expect a 500 amp to perform, from comparing to similarly rated products by Markbass, GK, TecAmp, etc.

There have been so many amps put on the market that are not rated according to the FTC standard that players are pretty confused when they compare output specifications.
It's regrettable that consumers think that we are conservative in our power ratings, and that we could have used a 500 watt "moniker' on our Tone Hammer 350. We have no way of rating except by continuous power measurement. I think people who work for amp companies should chime in on TB and say if they use the FTC standard. If they don't, they could say what their amp puts out when you test it according to the FTC standard.

I just bought one...playing through a DB112 it is quite the combo! I have been playing smallish bars/clubs/backyards with a B200H Acoustic through a custom (homemade) 210. I never turned that setup up over half way on the amp and it would shake foundations. I don't think the TH350 and a single 112 will lack for power for my typical gigs. I can always add another DB112 (tweed, of course!)

I love the drive circuit. I'm still experimenting with the relationships between gain/drive/mids. A little up tick on the mid level and it's GROWL time!! My band plays all genres and I need to be able to get a wide variety of tones. Lots of tone power on the TH...it will take some time to find the right settings for all the songs. suggestions?

My only very minor gripe is the low clearance under the amp. No way to clear the handle on the DB112 when I have the cab in an upright position. Need to get some taller feet. The DB112 could use some feet on the short side opposite the handle. I have a foot fetish today....

$425, shipped, no tax from MF. Great deal on a great amp. Now I can carry everything in one trip - amp bag, cab, bass, and tenor sax. Someone hold that door!

So I am hoping that very soon I can pick up one of these. Reviews on Youtube/here seem pretty good, I think the tone I am after lies within Aguilar, maybe a bit warm, but has the bite low/mid growl that sounds very awesome to my ears.

I am mostly running direct recording at home and on main stage at my church, so cabs aren't a priority at the moment. But some of my practices and side gigs require my own cab(s) and I need to know what can handle a full deep 5 string sound and keep volume with a loud drummer. I read that a pair of 1x12's or 2x10's works well this way, but would either by itself (1x12, 2x10) be enough or would I risk crapping out before I get the optimum volume?

Only at one point with my Metro (300 watts, 8ohm, 2x10) had I ever had it clip the power amp section and still needed a bit more volume, it was no PA support and a very awkward sounding room with very little bass response and a loud drummer/guitarist. Most of the time I am only about a quarter turn of the volume knob with the same setup in rehearsals and other gigs, but this one time it did happen. Is this about the same scenario to be expected with the TH350 and some Aggy/Avatar 1x12/2x10?

First gig with my TH350 + DB112+ Reverend Rumblefish XL last Saturday night. Small bar (<100 people), PA used for vocals only, no FoH support. In one word - it rocked! (ok..two words). Big compliments form the guitar guys on the tone (and tonal variations). I was amazed at how well this little rig cut through the drums. For better or worse I could hear every note I played, all night long. I could hear so well that I kept thinking that I was overplaying the band, but our sound guy said the balance was perfect. I was running the master at 12, gain less than 12, drive around 12. I run the bass volume full and adjust with a foot pedal before the amp input.
