Ah, Civilians…

People can be a ****ing test. I worked a big, formal party last weekend with a couple hundred well-healed guests. The host had pre-arranged to sing a ballad karaoke-style from the stage during the first break. He was an excellent singer, and everything went smoothly since it had been planned in advance. During the next break, the drunks started coming out of the woodwork. I drunk couple approached me and wanted me to serve up some Backstreet Boys and hand over a couple of mics so they could sing. Sorry, that's not happening. They wouldn't take no for an answer and kept badgering me, saying the host told them it was OK, yada yada. So freaking obnoxious. I told them they'd need to talk to the band leader and quickly exited the room just to get away from them. Well, they found the bandleader and started in on him too. He quickly shut them down, but during the next set it was a free-for-all of people stepping on stage yelling requests at the band mid-song, gesturing to hand over the mics, grabbing the tambourine, spilling drinks on the dance floor. Disrupting the show. I've never seem the bandleader so pissed at a gig. The good news is that it was a good night overall and a great payday, but it sucks when people cross the line like that.

Gigs like this make me miss playing in cages.
