Ah I need help deciding! help!

So I need a new bass because I'm outgrowing my old one (GSR 190)
and I came to these 4 choices

ESP B154
SR 300
Squier VM Jazz (there are multiple versions of this one which one should I check :o?)
ESP F154
SRA 300
SRX 350

You can also suggest other good basses in this price range (300-400) because I'm only going to the music store to test once and I need as much suggestions as possible

I'm going to try them tomorrow but my real question is which one will last me the longest? and take the longest to outgrow?

I want the one that i can keep for years or modify so I can keep it to suit my needs

Help a greenhorn out!:confused:

EDIT: I will be drop tuning to D a lot and maybe a C here and there

OR look for an older high end SR like the Sr800,900 and 1000. like this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] fantastic deal,and you wont find a better bass for that kind of money.

EDIT: Just saw your edit. Why not go with a 5 string then? You wont have to down tune.

Not familiar with the first two you listed, but the Squier VM Jazz that I tried out was surprisingly heavy. Could have just been that particular instrument since I haven't heard that about them anywhere else.

I tried that VMJ out at the same day I ended up buying an ESP F104. Pretty nice bass for the money, cool body shape,too. Decent active pickups, and a fast, thin neck. The 35" scale of the F104 may be an issue for some but wasn't really an issue for me. I eventually sold it after a few years just because I needed the money to buy my next bass. Kinda wish I still had it.

Out of those two, they're both decent intermediate basses, and both will provide you with years of enjoyment. It would depend more on the sound you're after and if you want a 'standard' shape or an unusual, gothic-looking body shape.

I have small hands + isn't B the standard for the 5th string I don't need to go that low and I don't go to C a lot I'm mostly in the D tuning range most of the week

I like Standard looking bodies I just threw in the F because the more options you have the better + i tried out its bigger brother and I felt like i was in heaven :D

i would look into anything in the Vintage Modified series, they just came out with a second j and p, and also a jaguar. If you do look into a 5, realize that you might have trouble wrapping your head around the B. also, the B is usually floppy on anything under 36 inch scale. i have the natural VMJ and i love it.
