Double Bass AI Corus

It looks to be a Coda with a different crossover network. Same Price - Same Cabinet - Same Size Speakers.Adrian Cho said:

Yeah, actually Rick Jones was the one who told me that some DB players prefer the Corus now over the Contra.
Bob B. is correct - It is still a down-firing design. And the # and size of the drivers are the same. And I think Rick said that yes the crossover is somewhat different.
But as I understand it, the major difference according to Rick is that the Corus uses a more efficient driver w/ a paper cone. I did not ask specifically, but I assumed he was referring to the downfiring 10" driver.
He did go on to say that at least one of the folks who tested it was left with the impression that it performed "more like" a front-firing cab. I could be oversimplifying it, and I could be wrong, but when I hear "more efficient", I think of a speaker that can go louder given the same input signal than a less efficient one.
I should emphasize (since Rick emphasized it with me), that an awful lot of this has to do with how each individual make and model of driver (and its given sonic characteristics) and the tuning of the cabinet work together when combined, which obviously they have spent a lot of time on.
So even though it may share many of the same physical traits with the Contra, and looks very similar in outward appearance, I gathered that the sound may actually be more different than you might expect.
Maybe those w/ some firsthand experience w/ DB will chime in.

Absolutely true. This is an important points and emphasizes why you cannot replace a driver in a well-designed cabinet with any driver of the same size and expect it to sound good at all. Much of this is codified and formalized in what are referred to as the Thiele-Small alignments. If you're interested, look here.
I'm kinda intrigued with this. I assumed the difference was that more sound (lower freqs) were coming through the 5" and that's why it behaved more like a front-firing cab.
