Double Bass AI Direct too hot?

I don't often use the direct out on my AI 10X2, but when I do, the sound guys always say that it is a very hot signal. My input volume is usually around 10 oclock, but even at 9 oclock, it's still very hot. I'm using a Full Circle. They usually wind up putting a DI before the amp. This means I don't have any control over the signal. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to have to carry another box.

AI = Acoustic Image?

If so, I've been told the same thing about my Contra's DI. Nothing that makes it un-usable but definitely it's been commented on a couple of times.

It is standard, commonplace industry practice for soundmen to use a separate DI box instead of the built-in DI of your amp. If the soundman wants to use his own DI then my advice is to let him. If you are concerned about having precise control over the signal then run your own sound.

Tell the sound guy to lower the input gain on the board to about 9 o'clock. That gives him a more manageable signal that he can fade up at will.

Acoustic Image DIs can be a bit hot (better than not), but most boards have a switch to put a 10db pad or so to reduce the input, and unless they're a novice the soundperson should know that. You can also pick up an inexpensive mic attenuator or pad (usually under $20 for a basic one, just a little tube with an XLR male and female connector at each end) if your circumstances vary and you never know who will be at the board.

+1 on the xlr pad...I carry a -20dB pad in my AI bag.

I have had the same complaint from sound guys at different venues about the hot signal from my Focus I Series III. I just ordered a -20db pad. I didn't know these existed. Thanks, Bob and Dan for enlightening me.
