Wow, those are getting *terrible* reviews on Musician's Friend. I'm glad it's worked for you, but based on those, I wouldn't go near it.

Yes, it gets terrible reviews on MF, but I've known a lot of people that have had good luck with them. Last year at the School of Bass II in Phoenix a bunch of us traveled there with Bass Safes and everyone loved them. The word on the Dudepit afterward was that Chuck Rainey used one on the way home and loved it. From the people I talked to there, and the discussions on the Dudepit afterward, I don't remember anyone that didn't like them.

I would take the reviews on MF with a grain of salt. You have no idea if those people are experienced gigging bassists or just people that pretend to be. The people I talked to are very good, very experienced bass players and I trust their opinions (and my own of course) over a bunch of anonymous people on MF.

The Bass Safe did have terrible locks, but I understand that they've improved them since I bought mine a year ago. I've also had a wheel come off, but I just check the hex nuts that hold them on every time before I leave now, and I haven't had another one fall off. I fly with it a lot and I've yet to get any damage to any bass that's been in it. You need a good thick gigbag, though. And I wrap one of those twistwraps around the two handle parts to keep it held together. Those don't come off, so I don't even worry about the locks now.

Even with the crappy locks, I love it. It's light, rolls well, and is ATA approved. And when you get to the hotel, you can leave it there and just use your gigbag to ride to and from the gig. Definitely needs a little work, but it's a step in the right direction.
