Metal Machine Music - Lou Reed
A double album, 4 sides of feedback, with a skip built into side 4 that would repeat the last few seconds endlessly.
In the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide, critic Billy Altman said it was "a two-disc set consisting of nothing more than ear-wrecking electronic sludge, guaranteed to clear any room of humans in record time."
For any masochists that may want to check it out, here is 9 minutes of the first side of Metal Machine Music:
And it HAS been reissued on cd. You can get the whole album in MP3 form from Amazon for $ 4.00.
If you really want to..............
Yep.I can't believe no one has brought these up yet...

Not just one........... but every album by Smashing Pumpkins.

All of the above and:
The Mars Volta - Francis The Mute, MOST UNLISTENABLE ALBUM EVER!! Sounded like it was recorded in LOW RESOLUTION 8-bit digital with PAINFUL digital distortion, it literally hurt your ears to listen to any of it.:scowl:
In addition:
Tool - 10000 Days, A near EXACT Xerox copy of Lateralus. Sorry folks but I'm just not buying their act, too rigidly formulaic and contrived, every song sounds too much alike (Don't they know any other key besides D?).

I really enjoy Metal Machine Music a lot.
then i suspect the joke's on you. IIRC, that "album" was just lou reed's "F**k You!" to a record company that had him under contract to put out an album whether he wanted to or not. i doubt he himself even listened to the whole thing.I really enjoy Metal Machine Music a lot.
