Fair enough.
I guess non of us are really experts on this matter, so you might be right, or you might be wrong, as might I, or we could both be wrong.
I of course still think that I in fact am right and you are right, but think being the keyword here, it's more of a somewhat qualified assumption than it is really something I know.
As for your suggestion about the experiment, if your approach turns out to have absolutely no effect and mine having a worthwhile noticeable one, then it wouldn't require a lot of statistic material (as in test results from different experiments with different dead old used strings) to draw a relatively safe conclusion, but if your approach turns out to have some effect, then it will be harder to determine for certain weather or not my approach will have any additional positive effect, since no two strings would be equally dead or even necessarily being dead for the same reason, and therefor alone results and degree of success could, and most likely would, vary from test to test, plus then there is the whole matter of how to reliably measure and quantify the result too, as well as how the different approaches might effect how long the strings last after the treatment before going dead again, and then it would require a lot larger quantity of statistical material to be able to reach any remotely plausible conclusion.
I agree though that it would certainly be interesting and useful to know.
