No thanks to folks like Bob Taylor and James Goodall, who bought up most of it, between the two of them. Fortunately, Bob has been working on a reforestation program in Hawaii as penance....back then Koa was dirt cheap even for the highly figured boards, that is no longer the case...

Great wood on that, Kevin. When do you spring this on Lisa?
What kind of case did your Distillate come in? The one I had came in a black trapezoidal case with a gray interior. I have never seen another of those cases. If you haven't done so you should change the registration of ownership with Alembic and ask Mica if she can find the build sheet so you know the date the bass was finished AKA "it's birthday".
Been waiting for the picture. Really nice bass, looks almost exactly like my first Alembic, I have always wondered where it ended up. But, the serial number on mine was 82D 2349 or may be 2344, hard to read the last numeral on my copy of the build sheet. I can't quite make out your serial number but what I can see looks different. At any rate they may have both been made from the same board of Koa. Mica told me that back then Koa was dirt cheap even for the highly figured boards, that is no longer the case. Someday I hope to find a picture of my old bass, the only shot I have of me playing it on stage is from the side.

Mine is 82D 2041.
Stunning. One of my favorite body shapes, too. This thread is no good without a picture! My new '82.
It's February or early March: Link RemovedThe build sheet for the one I used to own is dated 11/23/82 so I am guessing yours is from early in the year. Mine was made for, and sold by, Sam Ash in Huntington, NY.
The Balance K body is the most beautiful bass body on the planet, I have spoken!
You paid too much. The one I bought in the '90s cost way less than that, and it was in mint condition with OHSC. Flame koa top, too.No Exploiters? Bought in the late 90's for $1,200.
