Alembic Club at Talk Bass

I'm curious, what's the difference between a Mark King Deluxe w/ Series II electronics...and a "normal" (sic) large-body Series II?
(Serious.)

Gorgeous basses btw.

These were the differences in 1999-2000 (when I ordered and received it)

  • Mark King Dlx came standard with Coco Bolo. It was a high cost upgrade on the Series II
  • Mark King is solid body, Series II is chambered, almost semi-hollow. There was SOME chambering to accommodate SII electronics, but still more solid than typical SII
  • Mark King Dlx came with 5 body laminates, Series II with 7
  • Series II came with chrome hardware, Mark King Dlx with bronze
  • I think that's about it.

In later years, LEDs became standard on Series II, as well as embedded logo.

By ordering my bass as a Mark king Deluxe and optioning up the electronics, I got a Coco Bolo Series II for about $2K less than if I had ordered a Series II and upgraded to Coco Bolo.

Alembic closed that loop with some pricing changes several months later. I doubt that my order was the reason.
