Well, the seller's feedback is pretty good, which would indicate truthfulness, and the description details several things about the bass that are non-original. So I'd be willing to accept that it is what he says, a very old Fender that has been notably modified and refinished.

The bass was inventend in late 1950 and the first Fender was officially a 1951 Precision, which was similar to a Telecaster guitar in shape. This certainly looks like that bass. If it were 100% original, it would probably sell for 10 times what he's asking for it.

Regardless of the originality aspect, is it safe to say with serial # like that.......is this one of the 1st 500 Fender basses EVER? That's kinda cool to think about, if that is the case.

Not to mention the fact that publicizing a "steal" on eBay may torpedo a deal one of us are nursing and benefits no one but the seller.

Did anyone on TB purchase the black Sadowsky Mv-5 autographed by Newsted? I came within about $100, was real close to hitting the button one last time late in the game, but backed off.

Big +1 I'm quite curious.

AND for a essentially new Sadowsky that was nearly a steal. I breifly contemplated picking it up and then removing the sharpie and having a great Sad. but I decided not to just 'cus I didn't want to ruin the whole vibe it already had from being autographed incase someone later wanted the irreplacable design.

I was thinkin' about restoring the bass to its original condition, replacing the pickguard (that was the part actually autographed by Newsted) and auctioning off the autographed PG.

I'm sure some fan of his would want to shoot me, but I just kinda liked the bass, not the autograph.

My thoughts exactly, but better w/ the auctioned pickguard idea. I'm pretty sure the sharpie couldn't have been that hard to remove either.
