All Singlecuts, All the Time!!!

My Veillette Single Cut 5 Fretless. Piezo + Citron Mag PUs.

Compared to some of the cruiser class singlecuts out there, Joe and Martin Keith's offer weights almost nothing.

I have nothing useful to add, I just really want a single-cut and I love this thread :D

I hope it's okay, I have some pics I've saved (mostly from this site) that I thought might be of interest to this thread but I don't have the original URLs so I'm just going to upload them to my photobucket and link.

I'm not saying I like the last one but it's definitely interesting..

Wow- Preach's new fretless is crazy...doesn't even look like it has a lower horn, and pickups are nothing if not unique. Looks like they're set up to be able to be switched between Jazz and soapbar pickups with ease.

And Brad- there's gotta be something I can give you to get that fretless away from you :D Basses, comic books, a nice bridge in Brooklyn......;)

i played some of your stuff at the upstate ny g2g rich. i dug the pj briefcase and your fretlesses, i also was a big fan of the quality of work that joe veillette and martin keith do, and as aresult i am goign to have a custom bass made by martin after the holidays!! cant wait!

Yep, that was the idea. The surrounds have since been finished in a gloss and tinted to match up with the body. Originally there were matching knobs but Preach decided to go with the black ones so the rings really stood out. The extremely shortened horn came from the Rev Jones bass. As far as playabilty it's on par with my fretless, one of the easiest to play slap basses around and extremely expressive. The slap sound is like a fretted bass, which takes most bassists completely by surprise. OTOH while I think it looks nicer than mine (this pic doesn't do it justice), I'd give mine the edge soundwise. here's another angle...

That fretless is propelling fretless sales very well... just hand it to a bassist and stand back:D

I remember this bass! I almost traded my SKB3006 for it. Gorgeous piece. How do you like it, Brad?

Still a very cool bass. Just had it out yesterday. I just tried some DR Fatbeams on it and was surprised at how much it thinned out the sound (the exact opposite of what they typically do). With the Fodera strings it sounded like my Fodera six. If I were going to gig with it I'd probably swap out the boost only two band Aguilar preamp for a three band just to have more control at the bass. Jamey put in a panpot with no center notch so that's mildly annoying... and easily remedied.

Just last week I took it to the shop and had Kevin do a mod I'd been thinking about since I got the bass... removing the frets above the 24th. They were useless for me and got in the way of trying to pop. He knocked the fretboard down and now it not only looks better IMO but seems to put more focus back on the inlay.

the spalted/burls top on that elrick is sick brad! is it your stuff that is featured on the stambaugh website with the batman logos?

No, that belongs to someone else. I let both of my Stambaughs go in a couple of too good to pass up trades. I should have at least another one coming this way soon, Chris does very nice work.

The pic with the Batman medallion is of Preach.

Thanks on the Elrick, I like it too. I've toyed with the idea of having it fretted but can't bring myself to do it. besides, I play my NJS 5 more than any of the other Elricks.
