That's odd, because Ringo didn't join the Beatles until '62. Maybe all the studio had was an old one. Or this pic involves some sort of fakery.

I suspect not everyone rushed out in 1960 to replace their flag. I bet even in 1962 a flag that size would set you back a few bucks

Taken in Paris, with flag borrowed from American Embassy, to promote first American tour?
Other sources say that the photo was taken in April 1964 during a photo call promotion ahead of the band's first American tour (in August).

Hello, I'm a Beatles and Vox fan that often hangs out at the Official Ampeg Portaflex club, where Beatles subject matter sometimes comes up. Beans-On-Toast suggested I stop by. It's my first time here and I haven't been through the thread yet, so pardon any repetition! My step-bro recently sent copy of this image from an auction site and B-O-T thought it may be of interest:
No mention of Love Me Do and they had just recorded From Me to You three days earlier.
In Jim Elyea's book, it's mentioned that the last documented time that Paul used his Coffin and Quad amp rig was on the March 5th recording session, but apparently this photo is from the Harrogate newspaper article following the Friday, March 8, 1963 event.
Ringo didn't have a Ludwig kit yet, it's still his Premier. The band logo on the drum was the one designed by McCartney and printed on a piece of cloth stretched over the bass drum head. John and George played through the two black Vox amps and the coffin can be seen stage right of them. One of their P.A. cabs is on the bentwood cafe chair to George's right. McCartney received his first Vox set up later that month.

Once a song has been published, it's fair game for anyone to cover. You only need permission from the songwriter if it's never been released publicly.
A Music Video of a cover song is another story - that requires a Sync Licence, which can potentially be refused by the song owner . YouTube content ID usually manages that in the background, though there are also various other registries... (see Invalid Link Removed )
Black looked better on B&W TV and photography. Same reason why Elvis dyed his red hair black.
