What's this about? During a "Get Back" session Glyn Johns asked, "Paul? Uh, what's the possibility of you using another bass? ... Try a different bass." So Paul removes his Hofner and gets his Rickenbacker lefty. Then, Paul says to Mal, "So, the only trouble is the, uh, the strings slip off this 'cause it's left handed and the knot is for right handed. So, you know, I'm not so keen on it. ... ... Oh, well, I'll try it." How does the tie direction of a knot cause a string to slip off?
In another clip George asks Paul with his Hofner, "Where's your Rickenbacker? Isn't that much better?" To which Paul replies, "I like this one, it's lighter ... ... So, the answer is 'No'."
Presumably, the Ric got fixed ... ?

Just a guess.
Replace knot with nut and it could make more sense. With a nut cut for a right handed bass the E string could slip out of the G slot. His 4001 bass has a zero fret which complicates things as to how the nut is cut.
Something wrong here. The black tape wound rotosound strings could be too large in diameter for the nut slots.

Thank you, beanie. I believe you have hit on it!! I was totally swallowing the Closed Captioning, and video angle editing, about "So, the only trouble is the, uh, the strength(sic) slip off this 'cause it's left handed ... ..." (which I auto-mentally corrected to "strings slip off") as they're shown looking at the bridge area!
But he could have actually been talking about "the nut is for right handed" as the angle suddenly changes to show them looking at the neck!! (The AV of the "Let It Be/Get Back" sessions were not always strictly in sync!)
And, again, since the body and headstock are so obviously left handed, that I simply didn't even imagine the possibility that the nut could be right handed!!! I mean such work, and QC, boggles my mind! But, I now think that was the actual issue, as bone-headed as it may be.

I thought it was a knot I didn't know. But a backwards nut is not something I've ever encountered. But, of course, lefties encounter it all the time, usually on righty guitars & basses, but ... ... ...

With AI audio/video restoration, errors can slip through. nut->knot and it AI makes it sound like Paul’s voice.
It’s an interesting comment in the video to try to resolve.
Jon Lord once said in an interview that people assume that the Jimi Hendrix Experience was the most influential U.S. band in the U.K. in the '60's, but it was actually Vanilla Fudge. Makes sense, especially for Prog bands.
As an everyday Closed Caption user, I see this kind of thing all the time. The sound says one thing, but the CC can really mangle it to something else. I blame simple everyday non-AI voice recognition algorithms.
It's my understanding that Peter Jackson's "Get Back" processes only used used AI for audio cleanup only, not any content editing or creation. I recall such AV non-syncs from the original "Let It Be" movie where it was, apparently, hard enough working with sound tape and film images.
