Love this.
Just learned Hey Bulldog last week.
Some Beatles songs I will try to get every note Paul plays (Penny Lane/ With A Little Help, Saw Her Standing there etc) other songs I will try to learn the roots of the song and then do my take on it while staying true to what Paul was doing. As long as it would work in a band is my goal. Usually that means mine is simpler and less interesting than Paul’s lol.
But it’s good to hear a pro like this person in this lineup taking the same approach. Not trying to copy every note of Paul’s crazy amazing bass line but trying to get the feel of it.
It confirms what I’ve been doing for me and my approach.
A side note down McCartney/Wings way……Just rediscovered what a catchy and inventive bass line this was. It sounded good even on AM!
Recording McCartney II on the farm. I see a few Fender amps, Roland, Vox, even a Mesa. I like those Roland tape echo units.

When they came out here, they didn't do too well. LPs were revered — compilations were frowned upon 
Took me forty plus years but I now have the red album. Shouldn't be too long before I also have the blue one.
There are many good tips in the vid. I'll need to look again but the most recent pressings, getting harder to track down now, may be the way to go

Whenever anyone ask me why is my dessert island Beatles album it’s the Blue one (and Red but I’ll sneak that one on the island!)

For those who have been successful at doing it, what are the top five Beatles songs that make people dance?
Fantastic song, and fun to play! This one scared the hell out of me when I first listened to it as I was primarily a fingers player. However, a few years back I spent a lot of time learning to play with a pick which made all the difference in the world. I have by no means mastered playing HB note for note as I still need to improve my technique, but using a pick eliminated my apprehension. Good Luck!

Like you I love playing this song! I’m all thumbs with picks so it’s just fingers. I can easily do this timing/notes/triplets? with my index finger however I’m a big fan of Billy Sheehan. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Buffalo NY and see him in bars and parks etc all over town. 100s of times. Great guy. Great player. I started watching his videos last year and he uses a 3 finger technique. At first using 3 fingers felt really weird. But recently it feels more natural. And for Hey Bulldog I alternate between the index finger , two finger and the 3 finger technique. It’s cool doing it with 3 fingers. Feels like I’ve accomplished something. I try to use the 3 fingers every chance I get. This song is perfect for that. Now that said. I feel like what I’m doing would be serviceable in a band and most people would not notice that I’m NOT doing everything Paul does. So my version is not Paul’s. His is amazing. Sometimes I will try to get as many of his notes as possible, “Lucy In The Sky”, “Penney Lane”, Dont Let Me Down”, Dear Prudence”, etc. but for some I’m trying to get the feel and I get what I can and then give up lol.

Good for you on the fingers technique - impressive! Yep, you'll do fine. We both know most of the audience has no idea about the intricacies of what Paul played (especially on a song like Hey Bulldog,) so as you stated, as long as the feel is right you're good to go. Don Was did great in the clip that was shared above.
Cool Billy Sheehan story! I agree, Billy is a great guy and a hell of a musician. I met Billy at our first location in '87, and he graciously did 2 clinics in the late 80's/early 90's after we had moved to our new location. Here's a photo from early '87:

Very cool pics. He is a great guy. Even back in the day he was approachable. They were huge in Buffalo. Packed bars 7 days a week. Thousands of people would show up for an outdoor show to see them do amazing covers as a 3 piece band. (Eventually mixing in originals) He could have acted like a snob and got away with it but he never did. He would sit and talk to people at the bar. He’s just a very real humble guy. We all knew he was doing something special/different. Cool to see him succeed. And cool that he did those clinics for you. Those fit him. His obvious love of teaching and wanting to see people do their best and succeed are right in line with clinics.
Btw. First time I ever saw a live band was when I was 13 in 1974 and it was Talas and Billy. Lol. Blew me away.
