Alternative to Prosteels?

So I have an american p bass and I love it for that "piano" tone we all know and love.
I've been putting prosteels on it for a couple years but I just feel like there's something better.
I've grown to not like how they sound in the mix.

I'm looking for a string that has that growly, piano pick tone but not to dry and tingy like prosteels.

Personally I've never thought of P-basses as Piano like tone. That's reserved more for Jazz, Soapbars, and active preamps in my opinion.

But I expect there to be about 30 different opinions coming...

Try a set of Sadowsky Blue Label stainless roundwound strings.

those are good strings those blue labels stainless i had them on my jazz for a couple days good tone decided to try flats for my show tonight and tomorrow instead. ill be putting those blue labels on my precision once i get it back from repair.

Have you tried the XLs? They sit in a mix better than SS IMO. More mids.

I'd say try D'Addario XLs, since it would be the closest thing possible to the pro steels, but in nickel. After that you should have a pretty good feel for whether you prefer steel or nickel, which will narrow your search by half.

My only issue with XL's is they tend to lose that clarity and life after about 2-3 gigs.
