Aluminum Neck Club

This setup looks incredible. I sold my Meatsmoke to help fund my Obstructures— will probably snag one again, at some point. I’m sure it pairs well with aluminum.

Speaking of your obstructures... you still gotta make some good sound demos! I am dying of curiosity about that bass, although I did finally find a few live vids of MY DISCO using them.

I’ve been slacking in the demo department- just started playing with some friends a couple of weeks ago.. hopefully I’ll get some “in the mix” clips to share soon.
Here’s an iPhone clip I posted to my Insta not too long ago. Need to make more of those, too!

Oh well... Still, if true, that way to deal with customers is not something I could easily forgive... no matter how good their products are

Their products are top of the line, no doubt. But if you're spending top $$$ you kinda expect customer service to match and unfortunately they're way behind the competition.

I hope they're going to take it seriously this time around and not try to make the poor Russian dude to take down his posts in order to get his refund. (For anyone interested, check out the group Aluminium Axes on FB)

Also, regarding what you wrote on Electrical Audio, I, too, was a bit taken aback by Nick's "impartial" posts as it's pretty much common knowledge he's working for them now.

Actually they posted on Instagram today that they have begun taking orders again.
Last I heard they weren't going start taking orders again until the existing orders had been fulfilled...I was told my Series 2 bass would be shipping out in two weeks...That was last November. Now they are saying it will be ready in October. My bass has been paid in full. It seems like quite a few people are still waiting on their orders...Who knows!

You shouldn't have paid off the full balance. I paid mine off right before it eventually shipped.

In retrospect you are totally right...But at the time they made it seem like the bass was just about done and the rest of the balance was due and required in order for it to ship. I'm pretty bummed, but I guess I'm not the only one in this position.

I was curious if this sorta club was around. About a year ago I picked up an egc neck and put it on a mij geddy body with nordstrand jazz pickups. I'm curious what amps you guys are digging with your aluminum basses? I dont think my matamp gets along with this bass as well as my other amps.

Your bass looks SHARP. Really dig it.
I’ve been running mine with my Rusty Box into whatever’s available— at home, I use an Ampeg Micro CL set flat with the preamp taking care of my EQ needs. Sounds fantastic. I’ve also recently picked up an old Sunn Beta Bass 1x15 combo and I’m pretty happy with the pairing.
I’ve yet to run my aluminum build through a proper tube amplifier but I’m sure it’ll sound good if I ever do. I’m also using the Rusty for 100% of my overall tonal needs, so it’s really just a matter of whatever other pedals I’m running at the time that make things sound any sort of different.

I use an MTI era SVT, a GK Head from the 70’s (the only solid state I own, has a great overdrive tone to it when pushed with hotter pickups), and a late 60’s silverface fender bassman. I feel like these are all good candidates, I’ve been trying to get my hands on a MusicMan HD130 some time soon, I got a preamp pedal from JohnK based on that preamp and it cuts like glass with an aluminum neck

Thanks man. I'm relly starting to fall in love with it more, especially after picking up an electrofoods pig. It's a great IVP dirt pedal.
I've really been loving my arkham pre and mesa m190 power amp unit that I've been using lately with my geddy egc, but I can't seem to get something I like out of the matamp. I am curious to try it with my meatsmoke or trace v6, not entirely sure why I haven't yet. I had a rusty box years ago, but got rid of it before I really understood what it was all about. I imagine it would slay.

Hi all! Here's my 450B. I love it! I had a Duke back in the 80's as well, but that's long gone.

The 450B doesn't get any gig play since I switched to 5-stringers, but it does occasionally get a workout at home when I feel the need to feel some aluminum (other than a beer can) in my left hand! :D

I'm actually toying with the idea of letting it go as I'm downsizing the herd a bit.

If anyone's interested, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I love my Kramer 4001 DMZ, but the electronics have been dodgy since I've had it. I had a tech work on it once, but it didn't completely fix it. Finding somebody to work on vintage active electronics is kind of tricky.

I'm halfway considering sidelining the electronics in favor of a nice new passive pickup.

What does it have in there? I believe they came stock with passive DiMarzio Model Ps, my DMZ sounds killer with that thing!

I believe the 4000 has the passive DiMarzio and the 4001 has an active DiMarzio setup, but I could be wrong about the model numbers. I know I've seen active and passive versions of the bass. The active circuit is cool and kinda crazy when it is working right.

That’s a crazy looking circuit, I’m impressed at how far we’ve come in the way of active electronics :D

Travis Bean, Kramer and Electrical Guitar Company owners and lovers unite!! I see there are many on TB but I can't find a "club" in the search so I created It! :) Welcome everybody! If you want to join and be listed just state the aluminum neck bass you own! ;)
Photos are very welcome too! :)

I'd like to start the discussion asking you: what kind of strings do you use on your aluminum neck bass? I think the choice may affect significantly the "voice" of any instrument and more significantly on these ones which are really unforgiving ones!
I currently use Daddario ProSteels (heavy gauge), I loved their sound on my previous bass (Fender Jaguar) but I'm a newbie to aluminum necks and looking for more options and suggestions!

--- the club! ---

1. Bob_Ross (lusting for) Travis Bean TB-2000 :D
2. GIBrat51 ('78 Kramer 450B and '81 Kramer Duke Special
3. oZZma ('83 Kramer Stagemaster)

13. singlemalt ('76 Kramer 450B)
14. slantedpanted (Kramer)
15. Phud (Kramer 450B)

Saw the club link on a current thread. May I have a number for my ‘77 Kramer 250B? I’ve decided to keep it.
