He's using TC now, and next year he'll use something else. Rocco will use whatever gives him the best return from his endorsement. There's that one line from "What is Hip?"...
"As you're striving to find the right road,
There's one thing you should know:
What's hip today might become passe'."
In the past few weeks I've been thinking about Ampeg. But it seems that to get the BEST Ampeg is to find an OLD SVT.
And, I'm not too sure that I want to drop a lot of cash on a nearly thirty year old, or older amp. So, I am beginning to have my doubts about Ampeg. I have heard that the new ones are nowhere near what the old ones are and the SVT-VR is like 2K!
I am back to the drawing board for now. One thing I am pretty sure of is that I want 2 2X15 cabs and those new Peavey's look pretty good. I have had Peavey gear for awhile and they are tanks!
To each his own and nobody is crazy to not like something just because everyone else thinks it is "hip".
Sure, if I had a lot of cash, I'd go out and find two old MINT SVT's and 8X10 cabs for each, but I'm not that rich. Yet.
Oh, and isn't Rocco playing through GK amps now?
As for new vs old Ampeg, the only way it really matters is with the cabs. The heads, however, are as good as they've ever been (not taking into consideration the VR vs CL debate). And there are tremendous deals to be had on the used market. MTI SVT's, SVT 2 nonpro and pro, CL's...I've seen all of them go as low as $700 on the used market. $700 is a little optimistic, but $800-900 isn't.
