Am I the Gear 1%?

Ha ha This actually looks like a pile of gear. As I said, kinda got a drum recording project going on this moment. Disarray!

Years ago I went overboard. Spent thousands that I didn't need to. But that's another story that's covered in a different thread. Was it all needed/necessary to get me where I am now? Looking back on it, hell no.

I did mention this in that other thread. If I would have just gotten a Jazz Bass and an SVT with the 8X10 cab when I was actively playing in clubs/bars, it more than would have covered all my needs. Would have saved a boatload of money too.

Then I ventured into 6 string territory. Same thing. Spent way, way too much when there was no need to.

I don’t think I started off as a collector however after 45 years I came across so many basses at hard to resist prices that I sort of fell into it somewhat. I do gig all my basses though depending on what the gig needs and how I feel but I’ve kind of come back around to 4 strings now.
I think really most of us have more than we need...

Deals are a weak spot for me, as well. I would say my collecting is about 40% musician, 30% mad scientist/curiosity, and 30% deal hunter/flipper.

I am in marketing for a living and wish that I took as much joy in my industry, tracking price trends and value perceptions. I wish there were something professionally available in the gear industry that didn’t require relocation cause I swear I was meant for this. Ha ha

I also gig just about everything (except my sixer and an old epi Sg) on occasion.
