Amazing bassist at Disney

Someone else's gig, I guess, but my story :D

My girlfriend and I are at Disney for a while. We went to Epcot where they recreate different countries. We were eating crepes in France when we heard an awesome bass sound check in Morocco. She (also a bassist) suggested we go check it out. The guy was rocking a 5 string stingray (I have one and love it). The band was him, a belly dancer, violinist, percussion, keyboard, and a drummer wearing a keytar looking thing Covered with midi triggers. The bassist was dead on the groove, tight, great tone. He did a great job outlining the harmony, sometimes doubling violin leads, adding his own harmonies, and even a little soloing. Great use of arpeggios and a little tasteful funky slap.

After their short two song set I went to talk to him and he was very down to earth. He and the sound guy talked a while with me and talked about the trade and gear. He told me Disney is one of the few steady gigs still around. The sound guy said I'll get more opportunities doing tech (which I'll start school for soon) and that Disney does internships.

O never expected to find such musical inspiration at Disney.

Ps the guy played in a band called Morockin or similar. Told me to look him up on YouTube under drbassface and might have said his name was Dave. Anyone know him?

His name is Dave Lowrey. He is quite the phenom.

I was at Epcot with my family a few weeks ago and I saw the same band.
I was thinking he was really good as well but I wasn't able to stick around for too long.
Glad you got his name. I'd like to look him up.

On Epcot, that place was so packed it took forever to get in to anything.

Last time we went was during the food and wine festival and was the same deal. This time we picked the statistically least crowded day of the year according to touristinsider.com. My girlfriend is serious about Disney haha. Lots of people but no crowds to fight through, restaurants almost at capacity but always had a table, and the longest we waited was 45 minutes during test track. It did rain a lot though so the second performance they were going to do was likely rained out. We were hunkered down in Japan so we wouldn't have seen it if they did play

I saw a guy outside Morocco several years ago playing a Stingray and I thought he and the band sounded phenomenal. IIRC, it was a honeyburst (my favorite Stingray color, I own one myself :D ).

Unfortunate I'm at work and can't access YouTube, but I'll do that tonight.

Cool that he's a TB'er too. :bassist:
