I googled the mic and it looks like MCM were the only seller. Is Stellar Labs a house brand of MCM?
I pushed them. The "super cardiord" claim must be true.
BTW, for monitors during practice we simply put the mains on stands and pointed them back at us. No feedback. One of the guys has the "real" Shure 55 re-issue (he claims it's a Beta 58 inside. We're thinking about getting a couple more for the other singers in the band. The look is really amazing.
I received mine (CDM-550 chrome dynamics) a few days ago and just had a chance to test one out. I compared it to the Shure 55SH II, 55 Super, and Beta 57A.
This mic and my voice are like peas and carrots. Smooth even response. I'm not noticing a mid or low spike, and I have a voice that brings out the worst in mid-heavy mics. It's actually got some sparkle on it, very articulate. Sounds best from an inch or two away. Compares favorably to the Shure models. A little handling noise typical of this design. At that price, I won't have a meltdown if they get lost, stolen, or fall down and go boom.
I haven't run them through full PA at performance volume, but based on the reports here I don't expect any nasty surprises. I mounted them on some Atlas chrome stands and they look mahvelous.

This one is branded Pyle, and probably not the same mic at all. Red looks cool.

They've had those for a while. I can't comment on them. They come in plastic or metal. I wanted the authentic look, which is why I like these.

If you go on the MCM site and put in #35-8850, something else comes up. It "appears" to be not carried anymore, despite being in all the catalogs.
On a search this weekend, I found Newark had it listed. I bought it from them (basically same price) but being it gets shipped from MCM, I figured in a couple days I'd get an e-mail that would tell me it was out of stock or discontinued.
A few minutes ago, the box from MCM showed up and my mic is here. It looks great. I didn't need it. I use a 50 year old EV mic for the look (but I replaced the capsule with a modern one. The original worked but not well enough) already. We'll see. I have been buying some cheap mics lately and have been shocked at the good quality, like the Pyle SM57 knockoff for $10. It sounds better than my 57's and similar 546's.

Yeah. I've noticed they keep showing up in the catalogues, but are not available. It would be funny if this was some sort of error and they are wondering why nobody is buying them.
Regarding the Pyle "57", this guy actually did a review on them and was pleasantly surprised:

I tried it out. Sounds like a 58. I opened it and moved the capsule slightly closer to the windscreen. (I do this with many mics.) Very nice looking and feeling and the sound is very good.
My semi-acoustic band uses Shure Super 55s. Retro look, Beta 58 capsules. They sound great. But they're not $39. My guess is that the $39 ones will sound like $39.
