I don't have an actual bucket list, but one of the things I definitely want to do someday is be in a place where I can look up at night and see a sky like this.

Not in mine. Unfortunately, light pollution kills the night sky around here any more, and it just gets worse every year. The neighbor across the street leaves all of their outside lights on all night - oh, how I've been tempted to get a BB gun and fix the problem....

Back in 1980, I was on a family trip from California to Arkansas. We stopped on the side of the road for a bit; it was a long stretch of desert highway at night.
I looked up in amazement and said to myself, "Where did all these stars come from?"

It wasn't until then that I realized that's what the night sky is supposed to look like! It's not supposed to look like a star here and a star there. The night sky is supposed to be full of stars.

I get that living in the city will not allow me to have the same view as living way out in the country, but it doesn't have to be as bad as it is.

We have regulations here about night lights. All the streets lights and house lights (all night lights in fact) for miles around have been changed to downward facing, high pressure sodium lamps.
