Why would they leave a hole in the middle? I guess it was kind of boring without it?
^ They used it to do some base jumping from there. I guess there is a big gathering of nutty people in the area every year. Usually have the base jumpers and the slack liners do their own thing, separate from one another. Last year, though, they got together and did that. There's video of it on youtube.
