November 18 also marks Morocco's independence day, commemorating Sultan Muhammad V's return to Morocco from exile in November 1955.
You're beholding the main gates of the Dar al-Makhzen, the royal palace of the King of Morocco in the city of Fez. While the palace was originally founded in 1276, these ornate gates were added in the 1960s and '70s, crafted of wood and bronze—plus intricate mosaic tiling, a hallmark of Islamic art both old and new.

In 2004, Hubble Space Telescope captured one of the universe's most stately and photogenic galaxies, the Sombrero galaxy, Messier 104 (M104). The galaxy's hallmark is a brilliant white, bulbous core encircled by the thick dust lanes comprising the galaxy's spiral structure. As seen from the Earth, the galaxy is tilted nearly edge-on.
These are crystals of Xenon TetraFluoride. First synthesized in the 60's
Xenon is a noble gas and reacts with almost nothing. Fluorine is an extremely corrosive gas.
Combine them and you get a solid that sublimes at 137 deg. C

In the picture on the left, both the vapor and liquid coexist and you see the interface.
In the picture in the middle, the pressure is raised until the interface disappears. At this point, the density of the liquid and vapor are equal and so are their energies. This is called a critical point.
In the picture on the right, the pressure is raised further and the mixture is supercritical - neither liquid or gas, but it looks and flows pretty much like a liquid.
I worked on the construction of three supercritical natural gas pipelines in Africa. I think they were in the range of 3500 to 7000 psig., but I have forgotten.
