Cool. If you decide to try Cardinal (it's 100% free so why not), this is a good video about setting it up and the basics:
@Ugly : I've got MiRack and like it. I like that it's skeuomorphic so I know what to do. Audulus 4 is even more powerful but may be a bit head-scratchy if you're new to it. But it seems like a more pure and powerful modular setup on the iPad. I intend to explore it at some point.
For today's entry, I was reading about Éliane Radigue last night in bed, so here's a piece I call "The Rapid Radigue" -- it comes in at a "mere" 5 minutes. This is like the stuff I sleep to all the time. Except busier.
The "secret sauce" here is the Filter 8. It's the combination of the Band Boost + Reject output which is great for resonant feedback patching and the "fine" tuning knob. Just wow.

Nice work! I like 2Jamuary the best so far, but that's just me in a certain slice of time.
I wasn't aware of it until you posted about it - I put something up on YouTube on Sunday, missed yesterday, did another one today. So since I missed a day I've committed to intermittent postings. Is it supposed to be improvised? Electronic? I'm just doing YT shorts, my preferred mode of musical media these days.
VCV Rack 2 is free and offers plenty of modules. After taking Sara Belle Reid's free course even I am making noise. There is a Pro version and modules to purchase but those are optional.
Correct, but only the standalone version is free. I guess the only advantage Cardinal has is that its plugin version is free.
I'll play along with Jamuary, too, even though I am not sure how to qualify my jams. I guess they are at least textural and somewhat ambient, so...
Here are my first two jams; both on double bass into a Soma Cosmos. All playing is live and recorded directly to 2-track, I used a stereo volume pedal to control the volume of the Cosmos. Only a bit of corrective EQ, compression and reverb was added in post.

Your volume pedal is on the output of the Cosmos, correct?
I've been debating cobbling together a setup where I have a volume (or expression) pedal controlling the input to my Cosmos, so that the pedal would function like an Effects Send on a mixing console...but I haven't quite figured out a way to achieve that that doesn't require adding a ton of additional equipment. First World Problems, I know...
Yes, I control the output of the Cosmos. The mic of my double bass is plugged into a Mackie mixer, and the bass is connected to the Cosmos via the mixer's aux send. the stereo volume pedal sits between the outputs of the Cosmos and the aux returns of the mixer, and the balanced stereo outputs of the mixer are connected to my stereo recorder.
Great to see people joining! Supposedly the rule for Jamuary is record something every day and post it on social media. There are no genre requirements, in fact I think it was originally "write a song every day" which um, isn't right for people normally attracted to this thread. I don't think anyone cares if anyone misses a day. I just feel fortunate that people listen at all!
LOVE the double bass and Cosmos stuff, @Vunz! It's so much fun. Remind me I need to get back to my Cosmos noodles.
I think she's 90 now. Been composing for acoustic instruments more recently.
You know, it has a reputation as a "boring" filter -- I think people even say that in the Joranalogue thread on MW. And it is--until you overdrive it. Or use the BB+N output, which is unlike any other notch filter I've heard. I can get weirdo phase shifter vibes, Oberheimish sounds, and as of yesterday...fantastically clear harmonics because of the boost right before the notch. I've also really made use of the whole 8 phase sine wave oscillator thing, and I've even self-patched for FM. It's weird to say it's my favourite filter because I like the sound of my other filters better, but there is one filter in my Jamuary system and it's the Filter 8 (ok, and the Fumana, which is a whole other thing).
Also, obligatory "it's getting messier" photo for @steubig . I just literally pulled out patch cables and rerouted them for yesterday's patch.

i'm under the impression that line 6 makes you use their exp pedals? (or they did). i'd invetisgate that before doing too much. (i bought a line 6 exp for use with something else and it was incompatible; traded it to a friend for a roland ev-5 because he needed an exp pedel of and hx something-or-rather,)
