Played upright for a long time, and I always sacrificed string action for more tone.
Until you meet an OG player that’s been on the doghouse for the past 35 years and has the strings up so high you need two hands to play a closed A on the E string.
Read my last university bass teacher, I still can’t believe how high the strings where on that thing.
He hated even playing with an amp.

Any expression pedal that uses a 10k pot, with a TS jack(mono 1/4”). Problem is that most are TRS, and 10-50k.

You met some idiots because it’s definitely a minority that give English speaking tourists a hard time here.

Oh no one gave me a hard time. I just felt like the ignorant tourist. There were a couple times I wondered if people really didn't speak any English, but those were in smaller out of the way towns so it's certainly possible. Once I was in Montreal and Quebec City there were no shortage of people speaking English and I had no language barriers whatsoever. I still love Quebec and part of the reason I'm thinking about moving to Maine or New Hampshire is their proximity to Quebec!

Very much this. As an Anglophone I've had exactly one bad interaction around my crap French in almost two decades of living here. That said, I'm white, and some of my racialized friends tell other stories, but that kind of stuff also happens in the US and lots of other places.

I don’t speak French, but I used this in Paris, with great success.

bonne journée. parlez vous anglais? Je suis américain, je suis désolé

This is the way.

Tonight's experiment is below. I wanted to try and use the Fumana as a second feedback generator but I'm not having a great time controlling it for that purpose. My own attempts somehow do not work out as perfectly as in Frap Tools' tutorials (surprise surprise). For fun I also ran the "singing" feedback voice through the WMD Ultrafold, which is as much a distortion as a wave folder, and I continuously modulated the feedback control on that which produced some interesting sounds. I think I might need to woodshed the Fumana a little to get it doing what I want, but that's contrary to the whole Jamuary thing so we'll see.
