Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

I’d like a full length LP but will settle for a short EP.
Syro was freakin awesome, guess we’ll have to wait another 15 years for an full album.

you a fan, no way!?!???
;)

Haha!

I’d love a full length as well, especially after the Collapse EP, which might be my favorite

Of his EP releases or all his work?
I got SAW 2 as my top

I kinda flipped out over Collapse when it came out, but I probably have listened to Drukqs (so?) the most. Oddly, I don’t have Saw 2, but have been meaning to grab it.

I haven't had anything relevant to this thread for a while, but a couple of things happened:

1. I think I realized that the Bandcamp player isn't continuous, until you buy the tracks - then it is! I was listening to a great FAX mix put together by Pete Namlook himself about 11 years ago - The Ambient Gardener "Summer"

But there was a break between tracks which upset the flow of the continuous mix. I was holding off until Bandcamp Friday to purchase it but it wouldn't let me listen for free anymore so I bought it for more than they were asking. Love the sounds, this stuff is part of my continuing life as a musician even though I'm not playing with anyone else - the possibility of creating a setting to play bass in.

2. Plugged in my DFAM & Subharmonicon and came up with something - the first original music I've done in months - last one was February I believe. Working with Reaper - got the Moogerfooger plug-in bundle when it was on sale, so various reasons to experiment. I'm also seriously considering a new hardware keyboard synth. I originally thought Matriarch, because I was interested in the idea of paraphony and being able to play pads, as well as interface with the DFAM & SubH. But it's too big, and pretty expensive. Realized that a store relatively local to me has Moog and other stuff as well - right now, I'm considering a Cobalt 5S, and maybe a Grandmother - use the GM for sequenced lines and play pads with the Cobalt as one option. I'm kind of thinking Klaus Schulze here in a way, though with bass guitar in the mix as well. Would love to be able to perform live with that setup, but even just recording is sufficient - this might be the next step in my musical journey, trying yet again to actualize a vision I had over 20 years ago...

I only have one excuse for not posting this and it rhymes wirh "Drukqs:"

"Orphans" rocks too.
If I can post my stuff (my teacher taught music synthesis for over 30yrs and mine, eh... got praise...), this was a thing I made with a ZOIA and 2 effects (1 is a bit crusher, and the 2nd is... a... thing...) in Logic (and vol/pan):
Listen to Form Piece by Tool460002 on #SoundCloud
Form Piece
I'm super proud of this. This was not long after I learned what subtractive synthesis was. Like weeks. I'm getting better.

EDIT: If you can guess what 2nd stock plugin I'm using you win 5 me points. Not sure I can legally promise more.

@TOOL460002 — you can embed SoundCloud tracks directly in your post. I learned that seems to be the preference for this thread. Look for the little “film” icon in the text editor.

Your description mentions sampled audio in the Zoia. I assume that means you’re running the latest firmware. I haven’t upgraded mine yet. What do you think of the sampling in Zoia?

I didn't even know there was a beta with a sampler. Thanks! Guess what I'm doing for the rest of the day? I was using the audio looper, which meant no saving loops and quite frequently needing to re-record the same thing as the ZOIA would just lose it for no reason I could find. This update would have saved me so much time but I didn't know this existed and it wasn't out when I made my last couple of assignments.

It is a game-changer for storing audio. One cool thing I played with last semester was using the gate to trigger an audio loop played into the FM input. There are also CV outs that the audio looper doesn't have. No clue how to use those yet, but they have to be special. I do already have an old sampler (Korg Triton Rack) with a limited UI, so this module may not be a total game changer as far as overall function for me, but oh my the time I could have saved. It's a lot.

Went to see Avishai Cohen trio yesterday, it was freakin awesome. Very good show, excellent interplay with constant energy. The vibe was super cool.
Avishai was in top form.

But let me tell you this, the aliens have landed, his drummer, Mrs Roni Kaspi, 22yo……..is absolutely mind blowing. She is truly something special.
Extreme talent with superb musicality is something to behold.

the part about him using a midi drum pad instead of a sequencer/clock is kinda cool.
his electronic stuff isnt my cup o tea though, its quite boring imo…..but hey, who am i to say from my basement of crap.
he seems happy, thats the main thing.

Greetings, fellow travellers, from the woods near the Catskills. I've got my studio set up. In classic "me" fashion I a) forgot my H90 at home (though iOS effects are just fine) and b) chose a "simpler" setup that promised "more" but should have just brought some modular I knew inside and out to control my Implexus, which will probably be my main sound source for the month. "Any day now" the Oxi One will do full MIDI-CV conversion. And there are some other weird sync things I'm still figuring out. AUM is rock solid as always, though, and I'm liking Loopy for looping.

But I've got things going. I won't inundate you with experiments but this is one direction I'm heading with this project. I have @steubig 's "what's the intention?" in my mind, and the answer is some kind of minimalish melody + ostinato, depart and return thing, as a contrast to the group of drones I'll be releasing as soon as I choose an artist name (very hard!).

I already have a pile of takes like this, but this one has no obvious ***-ups and maybe almost has a direction to it. I have half a mind to lop off the first two minutes.

Really having a good time with Linnstrument and Spectrum as well. I am still in search of something as good at Bitwig's MPE organ for iOS though. Also, after being in a very hot car, the Linnstrument got a little floppy. Roger Linn recommends putting it in the fridge, which worked pretty well!

AUM, I’m assuming an IPad is your “computer”’for this set up?
I always get problems using the IPad, maybe I should try again.
Always with latency, compatibility with apps etc….I guess my workflow sucked also.

good work, keep it up.
