Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Soooo...how did it go?

short answer:
basically well.

longer answer:
fingers felt funky before i started. i was trying something different with a live sound for this type of thing, which created a problem. the stage can be a little woofy, so i decided to stack two cabs and used two amps; the bottom one with less volume filled the low end and got more clarity out of the top one. problem was i couldn't find my mono to dual mono cable, so i had to used a stereo boss eq pedal to split the signal. the pedal defaults to being on. it worked at home, where i remembered to put it into bypass—but i forgot to put it in bypass on the gig, so i was struggling with my sonics for a good deal of the set. (i came to this realization when i woke up this morning . . . oops.)

anyway, first two "tunes" were a bit little bit off and then things got better. fingers warmed up. audience fed me a bit. as a friend who does a lot of solo saxophone gigs remarked (i asked him for feedback), "you were thinking too much and finally tuned out the audience and then it took off" . . . which was pretty much spot-on from my experience.

people seemed to like it. i didn't embarrass myself (i don't think). i video-recorded, so i'll see what i think later.

i've been going through some old cassettes and have realized i've been attempting solo bass stuff with effects/loopers, since 1985 (!), but it's a different—and interesting experience—playing solo completely "naked" (no effects). seems kind of audacious?

i learned some stuff and kind of want to do it again. :help:

so . . . success?

Just one? Was it all Reverb-purchased Cwejman modules or something?

Haha!
I’m still on the Cwejman waiting list for when they do small batches because new prices are way cheaper than used. Not cheap by any stretch, but cheaper. I deeply regret selling my Cwejman SM-1. It cost $1,800 new, but was a full voice 2 osc mono synth. Used prices appear to start around $4k now. When I listen back to older works in progress, the main things I’ve regretted selling are analog mono synths for whatever reason. Been considering the Sequential Pro 3 for those duties. Very rarely bother to power up the eurorack these days and I’m not totally sure why other than time restraints

Speaking of synths, do any of you follow Jexus on youtube? Real odd dude, but if you just want to hear how synths sound when played well with no talking, he’s the man. He also does written reviews for everything he tries. No freebies. He buys everything used so no obligation to the manufacturer.

That would be a good reason. That’s also why I’m mostly partial to semi-modular synths. But then I want some weirder modulation or control. And I’m back to modular.

If there were ever a Pro3 desktop, I would buy it in an instant.

it was worse: i was the instigator of the solo outing.

thanks for checking it out.
Last time I played solo was in college.
It was a modern cello piece played on electric bass with a piano accompanying.

when I played it live ( did it twice)
I was freakin terrified, literally shackling the first time seconds before going on stage.
Classical protocol and « elitism » effin six @$$
