This is a Diamanda Galás cover. The original is just her and a piano. But even with such a simple arrangement, she brings some masterful weirdness. We compensated with happy helpings of HX Stomp, Empress Zoia, and 3 or 4 instances of VCV Rack.

Hmm, sequencers/sequencing. I rarely do full arrangements on any sequencer I’ve ever owned. Just several patterns, record all the parts, chop em up in Logic and come up with an arrangement. I have done full ‘songs’ on the Octatrack, but most days I feel like life is too short to put myself through it. Many of my parts/patterns wind up in the M8 for final arranging. That’s my favorite sequencer to do top to bottom arranging on to date. Oxi One is really good if I’m going to include eurorack, but I’m currently in a phase of not enjoying my rack as often so the Oxi just sits around collecting dust more often than not. Seriously considering getting another Bloom because it’s just fun to use in the rack.
I personally think the Octatrack has a very underrated midi sequencer. Got a ton of stuff written using just that and my EssenceFM until I felt like I was in a bit of a rut. The Elektron Syntakt is deceptively awesome. 12 tracks that can with sequence midi or its own internal sounds and has a great arranger.
Sequencers sequencing other sequencers? I’m a bit more of a modulate my modulators kinda fella, but the M8 has something called ‘tables’ which is very much a sequencer to sequence the main sequencer kinda deal.

There’s a fair amount of folks who are so next level on the programming side, it’s light years beyond anything I’ve done. Sadly (for me) it’s a style I don’t especially like, as a rule. DirtyWave (the company that puts out the M8) is still a one man operation and I don’t know how the guy manages to build units, follow all the forums and do so many updates. The whole M8 community borders on a religious cult at this point. In a way I think that’s awesome, but there’s no way I’m going try to keep up with it all. They’ve created this post demo tracker scene that uses pretty cheesy happy hardcore/rave/chip elements but with crazy advanced programming. So I listen to their stuff once, get blown away by the programming and never listen again because most dance music makes my skin crawl

Your self perceived suckage may come off as a wonder to your audience. If you commit something heinous on stage, don’t give it away with facial expressions. Audiences notice on stage disappointment more than performance flubs.
