the synth? are you asking about modular (i'm so out of the loop on that)? it's a new keyboard synth (hydrasynth) thay has some ability to connect to modular stuff, but i'd have to look up the specs for that in the manual. they also do a desktop version. pretty decent bang for buck i think.

I still haven't gotten through Duke's last longer video on a set of good speakers. It sounds stunning. But I only remember to plug it in when I can't listen to the whole thing.

I started getting "out of the box" the other night with the 0 Coast and patching the various LFOs it has. I was trying to develop a generative patch, but ended up with all sorts of "learning experience" nonsense. I'm surprised the villagers weren't on my doorstep with torches and pitchforks... or pulling the fuses out of my breaker.
I was thinking of trying to get something I could clock to my Empress delay, but I don't know what I can use for cv to midi. I also wasn't generating enough transient to really make the repeats pop.

that's good stuff. Have you checked out the Noise Engineering Basilimus Iteritas Alter? Akimies Taiko is also cool. I have a Dinky's Taiko I like quite a bit.
Surprisingly for me, my Cwejman SM-1 is my favorite percussion module, though I bought it to be a synth
Spent the day making sounds on the SM-1 and sampling them into the Octatrack. I think I have the start of a cool tune, in a noisy, pseudo-industrial kinda way

I can't believe how long it took me to see the importance of modulation to breathe life into electronics
it has polyphonic aftertouch, which is great.
you can also disengage the mod wheel from vibrato and use it for other destinations.
the ribbon control can be used for bend, modulation.
between those three things you have a lot of possibilities for one note/chord.
i'll try to do a rough sound clip of some.

Both being used here. Interesting ideas for building patterns. That Varigate looks useful as heck.
I kinda like his videos and he seems like a really cool dude. I just found a bit "trying too hard to get street cred" in one of his last videos when he said he was the same dude as before even though he now has sponsors and a custom studio and access to a crapload of resources. (People who mix for him etc...) And I'm happy for him that he is successful.
But sorry buddy, you changed. It's not a bad thing, it's just your new reality. You no longer are the guy in the basement with a limited budget trying to make stuff happen.

His schtick used to grind my gears, and I wished he'd just hop into the substance in his vids. I've turned the corner and tolerate him now. I like loopop and Sonic State demos much more. Just my preference.
I also disliked Davie504 until recently. His jokes turned me off.
Oddly enough, Mr. Excane, who is never on camera and says nothing, drives me up a wall. His demos are 90% useless to me.
It has been interesting to watch the evolution of Patrick Hunter. In general, it's interesting to watch the evolution of each of these demo celebrities.
Not musical, but highly entertaining, and Canadian, is the AvE YouTube channel. His videos have changed quite a bit to develop into the character he is now.
Same here I freakn hate filler and useless bantering. One of me pet peeves is camera trick garbage, makes me want to punch walls.
More content....less viewer "like" chasing. Like one I won't mention in a bed in a huge hotel making jokes about being difficult on room requirements on gigs.

the Varigate is fun too! I had a Varigate 4+, but the 8 is much better, IMO. I also had the Basilimus, but sold it. I'll probably get it back if I ever get a bigger case. At the moment I have a few more modules than case space. I still mostly use the Octatrack for sequencing and you can easily do that kind of probabilistic thing really well.
I have something of a 'modular mentor' who challenges me to learn new things and he pushed me to make most or all of my drum sounds from 'scratch' with a VCO, VCF and envelopes. I've done it on all my VCO's, but the Cwejman module is my favorite for percussion. I usually spend an hour or two making percussion sounds and sampling the sounds into my Octatrack.
Itching to go back to integrating live bass into this, but had to really sit myself down and learn the basics of the modular thing first

I've never been a huge fan of Andrew's approach either. Too cheesy, BUT he does explain things very well. He has another channel that's exclusively about modular and is less personality driven...can't remember what it's called now, crap :/
On another note, I seem to prefer producers when the are hungry and "struggling" rather than comfortable and "at the top" once they made it big. Yes, many that get bigger stay with the same hunger don't get me wrong.,....
My NUMBER1 example, and I'm a huge fan so it pains me to say this....RZA he completely lost his MOJO when the Wu hit it big. His basemen studio where he made the first few albums got flooded and from there....its all downhill.

There's a magic in the early years for many artists. Perhaps because there is a "new" element that listeners aren't immediately familiar with.
For me, early Misfits stuff is amazing. The production values are lo-fi, and the mixes change on every track, but the energy and vision they captured is incredible. It is a stark contrast to some of the later material which has far better production, which sounds slick but doesn't communicate the same fire.
