Brain scratching and learning curving.
I had an idea to knock out a track or two using the PO32 as a drum machine and then sequence a hardware synth with Ableton.
There’s no way to sync the PO32 to Ableton, so I expected I’d need to sequence it and then snap the audio to the grid. That wasn’t too bad for the section of the song I tested.
Sequencing the Nyx was trickier than I expected. There’s some hardware latency to manage. There’s also a quirk where the first note of the sequence is always quiet relative to the other notes. I essentially had to “pre sequence” a copy of the pattern to get it to start with the right sound, and then chop the extra audio off the front end. Additionally, the midi notes were quantized on the grid, but the resulting audio drifted around a little. I’ll troubleshoot that tomorrow.
I’ve been spoiled with in-the-box synths and effects. I’m trying to make myself work with all pedal effects and hardware sounds on this. I can already tell the sound design is going to be more work than I expected. I’m hoping the Nyx and PO32 play nicely together. If not, I might bring in the Medusa, or I might use a sample-drum sound. If I go that route, I’ll save myself the PO32 timing and sync headaches.
