Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Back on the granular topic... I know all about the Particle... anyone use the Tensor? Thoughts?

Although I can't afford it, I'm gonna have to pull the plug on something, soon.

here’s something i didn’t consider until just now. i was messing with my boss dd-500, which besides having tons of interesting delay possibilities also has a pattern delay that might get a little granular *if* you futz around with an exp pedal to control the time.

since you already have the md-500 (i think), this might be interesting in that you already know the architecture and it would give you other possibilities. the dd-200 might have the same algorithms? (though i think it can only do one delay at a time, while the 500 can do two different ones simultaneously.)

Ok I bought the SounScaper app yesterday, I’m floored by what it can do. I feel many hours of myself lost in this thing........
Why the heck didn’t I know about this thing sooner!!!

Here is a quick clip of.....I have no clue what I was doing. I
Felt like I was at the helm of the Star Trek Enterprise.
It’s an 8 bit version (you can convert instantly to 8bit in the app, soooooo cool).

That reminds me, it has a pattern trem... I should mess around with that, a bit.

Still not sure what I'll do, yet. Been so good at saving money during this crisis, but GASattack.

Cool graphics. When it arrives you should photograph it and add it to the Pedals Photogenic thread!

Yeah. It’s a charmer.
I’m hoping there’s clean enough tones in it. I’m curious how the EQ and clipping will work on my synth and drum stuff too. I’m not sure why I really wanted it but it kept me coming back to the one demo and staring at the art.

Why?

What do you do with it/like about it?

It’s very accessible after the initial first few days, and then it can serve as either a primary source of inspiration for composing, a subtle effect to be paired with others, etc. it’s just incredibly fun and functional and a very controllable way to stumble into happy accidents. There’s no latency with the pitch shifting, and the options for momentary/latching really open up different ways of playing it. No deep alt modes/functions to memorize... I could go on. It never leaves my board

I know both @cosmicevan and @emjazz are also fans

here’s a tiny loop I made relatively shortly after getting it

It's such a unique pedal. On the surface it seems it should be easy to understand, and you do basically grasp it with some time....but it also always has an unexpected quality to it. If you fight it you'll sell it quickly, as I almost did because of the enormity of the thing. If you just let it be what it is you'll love it. I'm at the point with it that I'm using too much of it too much of the time, and I'm not making music...just broken sound. Trying to keep going so I can make music with it again. I'll get there!

It all depends on what you consider "music".

Imo broken sounds and creativity are indeed, music.

;)

My 2 cents.

i often find this to be a problem with pedals. how to make it "musical" or control a pedal in such a way that i let it be itself, but still have my artistic control/intent be at the forefront (and we all have varying needs in that regard).

It's a fine balance between you creating with the pedal as a tool or it just going ape $hit and doing it's own "thing" without the musician's "intent".

Yet this poses another question, when does randomness become creativity or just plain pointless algorithmic calculations.

Just thinking out loud here.....

yes.

that's an aesthetic choice. i always want a bit more control. (german heritage, y'all!)

for me it's about whether or not i can figure out on to react and manipulate in real time, which also means that i need to be deep in the process in the moment (or as deep as i'm capable).

caveat: i do mostly improv, but even when i'm doing multi-tracked pieces, i'm coming to the parts with that frame of mind.
