This comes back full circle with the deep in the moment aspect of listening to what is happening, random or intentional.yes.
that's an aesthetic choice. i always want a bit more control. (german heritage, y'all!)
for me it's about whether or not i can figure out on to react and manipulate in real time, which also means that i need to be deep in the process in the moment (or as deep as i'm capable).
caveat: i do mostly improv, but even when i'm doing multi-tracked pieces, i'm coming to the parts with that frame of mind.
