Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Get the desktop version.
Yeah, that Iridium ain't cheap, but there doesn't seem to be anything else out there that's capable of those sounds, other than its $4k big brother, the Quantum. Financing is 55 a month, which I think is worth it, for me.

Ya.....I'm not the most impulsive gear head. But the new ideas that the hydra could generate is mind boggling.

Still fighting myself if its worth the sacrifice or if I can get by with my poor mans ipad soft synths........

Not like I'm gonna drop the next Tim Hecker or Rafael Anton Irisari ambient masterpiece.

Damn you.....I really , really , really, really , really want a Desktop Hydra........

hahaha. i don’t know. i know sarah belle a little bit and tried to email her about some of this a while back.

she has a super-deep understanding of max/msp and modular stuff, and her boyfriend (who is the guy who did the perfect circuit hs video) and she have written a lot of controller code.

very smart people!

check out her mutant trumpet/midi controller stuff. pretty crazy. i did a trio gig with her and a saxophonist that was pretty crazy.

to further annoy you, since i have the keys and module versions, i’ve layered one percussive patch using one microtonal tuning with another percussive patch using a different one.

also pads: one microtonal (but 12-tine close to chromatic, one standard).

That reminds me of this. A few years ago I was printing photos in a dark room and then drove home late that night. DC has a jazz radio station that plays weird stuff at night, and driving down a dark road along the Potomac River this was playing. I couldn't wait to track down the title so I could buy a copy of the album. Not really ambient bass related I guess, though his arrangement on the album uses both an upright and a bass guitar, and there is an analog synth in there in parts if you listen carefully. This may be the most conventional track on the album, much of it is spacier than this.

yeah. cool. i have a couple of friends on that disc. and @emjazz's fave ebass player is on that.

That dude could turn me off of any piece gear. I know he’s popular, but I can’t take his demos.
