Was thinking the C9 to go with the M9 but IDK, maybe too close? Also, how do you like the M9? My Eventide H9 (so much 9!) has a couple good synth sounds to it. I take it you like the Enzo. Am wondering if I might want some more tone generating stuff.

I thought about the C9, but it's a bit too similar, and I'm overall not a big fan of the way it sounds. I love the M9, it's one of the few pedals that's been on the board since it got there, it sounds great, and it's so easy to manipulate those sounds into very un-Mellotron kinds of sounds. I'll never get rid of this pedal. I LOVE the Enzo.

Really, the problem is there's not a lot to choose from, right now, if one wants any more than the basic synth sounds, which I don't.

Big problem, though.;) I still have a few more mono pedal slots on my bypass looper and now room for them on the board. I'm looking for yet another tone generator (my MEL9 and Meris Enzo provide most of my pad sounds). So if anyone has any ideas (not looking for noise/chaos type stuff), I'm all ears.

Actually, they have a cool thing on the boss site, where you can preview ever single sound (121 of them) with either guitar or bass. Some of these are definitely sounds I don't have, so I think I'm gonna dive into this later and have a listen, this could be exactly what I need.

I've posted this before, it's basically all SY-1 with filter and delay done in three layers, including the sequenced sound. I really like this pedal but a lot of people dislike the lack of presets. Once you find a setting you really like you might want to write it down for future use. Also, far as I can tell there's no way to sync up the sequencer with any external clock, it's only controlled by the knob setting. Still probably my favorite synth pedal so far.

Use the expression pedal to sync easier

I use mine limited in I don’t like the organ stuff or the bell/chime stuff.
Happy to dial in a few things busy mostly leaving mine for “band use” on lead types with expression pedal used as a filter sweep., turn down the knobs and then turn up until you like the resonance/tone.... I find it can get pretty squealing/ over the top easily and the expression pedal opens up the use a lot more.

the long video of this actually helped way better than any other demos or the boss sy1 page.

I spent some time patching the Zoia, with a focus on building elements (pages) which could be copied to future patches. Until recently, I’ve just patched based on what will fit on a single page and serve a purpose for a single patch. I’m realizing I need to think about building “macros” to save time in the future.

I also focused on using the “star” controls (like a macro in a synth where you pick a few favorite parameters to have in a single menu).

What I came up with is a HPF fuzz into a cab sim with a blended LPF clean sound through a compressor. What really felt like a break through was adding a 3-position switch. 1) Dry (fuzz only) 2) Reverb 3) Delay w optional Reverb. The Delay has a switch to turn the Reverb on/off. I didn’t link it to a stomp switch, but I could work on that. I did build in a tap tempo control for the delay time.

I could revise my switching system. As it is, it simply routes the audio, which I believe gives me tails. I could build switches that they control the wet/dry parameters of the delay and reverb, so that they stomp-on to a preset blend value or off to 0% wet.

I feel like getting into the controls is really what the Zoia is about. The resulting fuzz isn’t anything special, but the blend with delay and reverb is better than I expected.

Not sure how much has changed on the latest version, but I’d expect it to be similar to the previous one which I own.

There are two synth sound engines. Each engine can select from a bank of existing sounds, which can then be adjusted by the macro knobs on the device. For deeper sound design, you can use the USB connection to access the sounds with a computer editor.

There are 4 “drum” sounds per session. Those can be any audio sample, which can be transferred by USB. The newer version has expanded memory which allows for more samples. The previous version had a fixed number of sounds (I forget how many) limited by the total audio length of all samples added together. So you could have 128 sounds limited to two minutes of audio (or whatever it actually is).

There’s onboard delay and reverb as well. Nothing wild but clearly enough options to make things sound good.

There’s an SD card slot on the new one. So I’m guessing that’s another tool.

Here’s a comparison table vs the previous model. Having audio in, and two dedicated midi tracks is huge. You could use the two synth tracks on the old version to send midi but only a as a mirror of the existing two tracks.
I might need to consider an upgrade. Particularly since my current version glitched a little last week (not sure if it was dying or just having a bad day).

Can it sample as a standalone or you need to import files?
