My wife and I both graduating college without any school debt (or credit card debt) is why we live the life we live. It's the reason that we were able to get a nice house and why we can float the family on a single income and be able to also buy nice things while preparing for retirement (I'll believe I can ever retire when I see it though).
As such, it is my mission to ensure that my kids take on no student loans ever. If loans have to be taken, I will take them and pay them off. Starting life out after college without a mountain of debt is the difference in having a life not dominated by fiscal decisions. I have friends where both spouses work and have great jobs and it seems that they are still always struggling with finances...it all boils down to student debt.
All that said, I am glad I took the path I took of corporate day gig...but it's true w college being what it is today...I wonder if I'd do it all the same if it was now. I definitely struggled financially through college and worked 3 jobs when I was a senior and bought no books (learned I could check them out from the student library and shocker of all shocker, no one else was taking them out, so I'd take them out and then renew them over and over for the full semester - savings of probably $1k). It was all worth it though to graduate with no loans...and my poor friends who were never taught how to use a credit card who ended up signing up for one to get a free bob marley poster and then proceeded to run up $25k in debt that they could never live down.
Been on a tape\tape manipulation kick lately.
Any cool records I might have missed?? (Please no Hainbach, he’s a cool guy, but I’m not really into his works.)
In the lab I’ve been making some “tape” kind of experiments with my SP.
Slowly thinking of an entire record of that type\genre....etc....would be fun. Already have lots of recordings.
Slowly getting “good” with that sampler, now it’s a must have tool for me. I just used it in a completely differently way than most people do. Found “my work flow\sound\approach”. Put in the work, and it shows.
Contact mic is getting used a lot also for this.

Sounds great. I love sample-based stuff that messes with time. Also curious about newer stuff. There are a lot of videos of people messing around with Eurorack modules made for tape-style manipulation, but not a lot of records....

Very cool. Used it to test master so tracks I had laying around.
It's in the official tool kit now.
I use the SP like a multi track tape machine. (In this instance, so many ways of using this thing.)
Each pad is a tape loop track, so up to 6 in stereo and 12 in mono.
Then you're the “conductor” to add FX, pull stuff in or out, loop, reverse loop, resample, one shots.....and so on.
Lot’s of possibilities, huge amount of stuff can be done with this way of thinking about the sampler.

It all depends how it reacts to other sources than a guitar or bass.
I'd use that in the aux of my mixer, with my synths or even as a split direct out of my sampler (wet/dry outputs).
When splitting signals, one must also consider if the pedal flips the phase. Which shows the importance pf having a good splitter that allows you to 180 flip the phase.
Thus said, it must handle line and instrument levels. If not, its a no go.

Re: tape manipulation music, I really enjoy the works Henri Pousseur contributed to that canon...possibly (probably?) because he came to the discipline from that of a rigorous serialist and so his tape compositions also reflect a similar control & organization of materials, which appeals to me in any style.
I also really like the tape manipulation pieces Frank Zappa put together on We’re Only In It For The Money, which I suspect are completely antipodal to Pousseur’s in terms of organization, but they still sound cool AF.

So I got tired of the two-pedalboard/five billion cables thing, and went and bought one of those 42 inch Templeboard trio boards. Right now the two-board behemoth is a real pain in the ass to move, so it takes up a huge chunk of my studio space.
Big problem, though. I still have a few more mono pedal slots on my bypass looper and now room for them on the board. I'm looking for yet another tone generator (my MEL9 and Meris Enzo provide most of my pad sounds). So if anyone has any ideas (not looking for noise/chaos type stuff), I'm all ears.

Also, I am going to have a nice NYC pedalboards case (wood, two tier, roughly 36 x 14 ish, tweed covering) avail pretty soon, so if anyone's interested, let me know.

I don't know if that stands the test of time, it still seems interesting, but not as enthralling as it once was. Am I that jaded?
They should put the whole Night Music Series on NutFlecx, or better — on some form of hardcopy that I can keep and watch when the apocalypse comes and wipes out the Internet (counting on my solar energy cells for e-juice). I need to make a new tinfoil hat, this one's getting a bit tight...

Nah, I'm not a fan of that POGGgy EHX sound, in general. Plus, I can do almost anything that does with the Enzo except with more control and better sounds.
I realize if I'm not into the noise/chaos thing, my options are somewhat limited, here.
