Well, my CV recording experiments were unsuccessful. However, my ability to control the Bloom root note was successful. I think I’m pretty much sold on the Erica Black Sequencer for my needs/wants/applications. I’ve still got functions to learn and explore but it seems like it’s worth the price and the rack space it requires.

i do have one.

i was using a hydrasynth to control it, as it has polyphonic (not channel, which i'm pretty sure is what your prophet has) aftertouch.

more recently i've been using the mcmillen k4 pro keyboard, as it sends true mpe (the iridium's beta firmware supports mpe; the firmware on yours probably has an earlier firmware. you have to sign up with waldorf to get eh beta).

the developer, rolf, also did two kickass ios apps—one on his own and one for waldorf. very smart dude who has done some great work. (i'm a fan.)

I am in a new group that sometimes calls for some ambient/textural bits on bass.

I am getting a lot of that from the Zoia, but I an running into CPU issues with how much I am glitching out the patches on that. One of the big CPU sucks are the reverbs, which still aren’t 100% to my liking.

Also, with the pedal order I otherwise need, it would make sense in general to out a reverb or delay pedal after the Zoia.

I am looking potentially at the Source Audio True Spring as spring verb had always been a favorite.

Wondering about any opinions on that or other MIDI controllable reverb or delay pedals. Thanks.

Why do you need midi controlled pedals?
Helps narrow down possibilities.
But imo in the midi controllable reverbs, the red panda context 2 is going to be a hard one to beat. Sounds freakin amazing, plus can be set mono or stereo.

And I'm certain @steubig can vouch for the boss rv500 being an excellent choice. More complex and very powerful.

The CPU usage from reverb patches adds up quick. I love the Ghost reverb but it’s one of the most cpu intensive modules of all. I’d say the modules generally aren’t my favorite sounding effects, but the utility of the device is a fair trade.

For other reverbs, I’d say check the Empress Reverb. That’s been a favorite of mine for a while. I’ve shifted to using an OTO BAM but that’s not a cheap option nor a pedal (it’s desktop).

I have no experience with the Source Audio reverb. The Game Changer reverb looks pretty interesting, but it is mono.

Edit - also worth mentioning, one of the recent firmware updates saved a bunch of cpu in some patches. Make sure you’re current.

For one, I'm also on lead vocals. So I need to have things set up to operate from the front row and often with one button click to change a whole part. I can't be tap dancing, reaching/looking down at my feet.

The hub of the pedalboard is a Boss MS-3, so if the pedals are all MIDI, I can toggle multiple on/off at once. The loops are already spoken for.

Also, I often will want to use some LFOs, so MIDI.

i do like the rv-500. very powerful and programmable. i only scratched the surface with midi on it. it’s also cool that you can cascade two reverbs into each other, or morph between reverbs with snd ev pedal if you program it correctly. also has lfo modulation of parameters buried in there (boss calls them internal waves or something like that.)

that being said, i decided to go for stuff that was less “programmy” and more easily played live. i have the context 2 now. i do like it.

I've been quiet but busy - Thanksgiving on Thursday here in the US, but I was setting up a Moogerfooger patch a couple of days before and after - towards the end, I realized I could trigger the Subharmonicon with the envelope from the MF-101 lowpass filter - recorded a bit with my Alembicized Guild - the AleM-85 - as the trigger/accompaniment.



After the fact, I put some MF-104 analog delay on both (long on the synth, short on the bass) and EQ'd the envelope-filtered bass part, and finally have something - it was interesting trying to "play" the envelope/trigger. In the end I spent a LOT of time playing and recording this past week!

ya, the True Spring either requires a usb MIDI converter ot the Source Audio Hub, but I already have the hub because I have an Ultrawave for all my dirt.

I have a GFI Specular Tempus, which is verb/delay or delay/verb, verb/verb, etc. Works great with midi, has a desktop patch editor that is really nice and I like it a lot.
I also have the Gamechanger Light Pedal spring reverb and it’s really great, though a bit fussy to dial in at times, mono only and I have no idea about the midi part
EDIT. Away from home, but I don’t think there’s any midi. I would like to try sending cv to the expression input though!

If you’re already into the Source Audio ecosystem and like the app, etc., then True Spring makes a lot of sense. I liked the spring sound on the Ventris quite a bit and it could get weird if I wanted it to.

I may have to see if I can squeeze pedals closer together and get a Ventris or even Collider on. I think the True Spring goes more for the range of spring sounds. Definitely my favorite types of special effect reverb (i.e. not those I'd use in mixing), but I worry I'll just quickly be wanting for something stranger.

The way the Source Audio Hub works also annoys me in general. I wish they'd just make the pedals a tad bigger and put a little dial and LED program number on them and have trs MIDI. But I know I'm nitpicking. It is insanely awesome to have the Ultrawave which basically has all the dirt types I ever wanted and a bunch I never knew I wanted and even with the hub it takes up two regular pedal sizes for all the dirts.
