i keep trying big pedals that do a lot that require a fair amount of programming. pretty much every time i end up back with individual pedals that have quick and intuitive interface that i can change quickly on the fly.
Minimal menu diving and knob-per-function is a huge selling point. It’s why I’m hesitating to open up the Euro Zoia. It was in stock and there was a sale discount, so I grabbed it. But I’m still thinking through how I’d like to implement it in a way that’s playable. I think the CV control jacks will work with the joystick controller I have. I mostly plan to use it for simple delay/reverb/modulation configurations, and possibly add some filters. I was looking at a few other modules and decided the Zoia would be easier to manage. I considered the interface (which I’m familiar with though it isn’t my favorite) vs. the convenience of virtual patch connections and ability to select effects from a large library, and then configure and save settings.
While I already have the pedal version, the extra step of routing to the external pedal then back into the rack can be inconvenient. I decided that the time cost of setting up and tearing down and patching was enough to justify the cash outlay. I could end up flipping the pedal version too. Either that or the Delay and/or Reverb boxes I have, since there’s some redundancy.
yep. I used to have Alesis Quadraverb+ and a Digitech 2120 artist in my rig. Spent more time programming than playing!

Still punching walls and making beats on the M8. I’m gonna learn how to use this thing if it kills me
the mod matrix in combination with the different synth engines is a great thing.
a controller with polyphonic aftertouch or mpe is also a pretty amazing thing.

I’m using the Prophet REV2 as a controller to explore the after touch.
I have never seen anything like this before… Have you? it’s pretty mind blowing what it can do when you combine those engines.
3D sounds would be the best way to describe them.

HAHA! I’m way ahead of you. Thing is, the first couple hours I had it, I had no idea where to even start, but I had a tune arranged and recorded in two days. Just have to take it on in bite sized chunks

Honestly, I was terrified to even try the M8. I briefly tried reNoise (popular tracker software) once and never opened the program again. This is the tutorial I followed along with to get started
Though all you get when you’re done following is a cheesy drum n bass beat, but it’s such a good primer. And it doesn’t have to be samples, which you’ll see as you follow along. As soon as I finished making my cheesy DnB break, I started a new project and had a song finished in about a day. The guy in the tutorial was very repetitive, going over each move over and over. I really appreciated that
They’re slicker than an elixir and the black beauties I used quite a few years ago. I used to use elxirs and found them kind of smooth but a bit dull over time… I don’t play anywhere as often as I used to so doesn’t bother me too much. Allegedly some of the colouring will flake in spots but I guess that’s bound to happen eventually
otherwise they play nice and have just the right amount of not too much zing and not too dark/dull (which is my preferred tone - I guess others may vary)
I’m getting my head around the Erica Black Sequencer and it’s becoming my favorite sequencer so far. It’s got more channels than I think I’ll need, but that’s better than not enough. The controls are intuitive enough. The form factor is manageable for my hand/arm mobility issues. I’m not sure how “playable” it is in terms of live improvisational performance but the manual seems to indicate it has some functions intended for such things.
If I understand what I’ve seen so far, I should be able to remove multiple modulation modules.
Tomorrow’s plan is to try loading sequences to/from Ableton Live over MIDI. if all goes well, I might also unbox the Zoia and wire it up.

gonna be following your progress! If I remember right, the Black Sequencer works over midi as well as cv, yes?
It does have MIDI in/out jacks
It also has CV in/out, so I’ll try CV recording sequences from the Bloom outputs as well. I mean, if you can’t sequence your sequencer with external sequencers, then what good is owning a sequencer? My other stunt will be to initiate root note changes in the Bloom sequences from the Erica. So I’ll have one arpeggio sequence in Bloom that’s 8 1/8th notes long, and I’ll modulate the root note from one Erica channel dedicated to chord changes each bar. I’ll have another Erica channel running a bass sequence/riff to support it all.
