Yeah, not at that price. Then again, most of TE's stuff is way overpriced for what it does.

I'm trying to figure out if that's some sort of SD card on the side that it can record to, as that would definitely make it more appealing, but still, not at that price.

The current state of the world has me even second-guessing that new bass I'm getting (which is costing about 700 more than the Clement, but it will be worth every penny). My GAS has been curtailed immensely lately, can't even bring myself to get another pedal right now, even though I currently could afford it.

At least the bass could be a good weapon to throw at the militia guys as they come down the driveway and I've run out of ammo.

Lots of flowery language on the page. The summary is:
Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too.

Given that I could barely accomplish anything with the Digitakt, I am reverse GASing on this one.

For $549 the 1010 Bluebox Mixer seems like a better deal. Plus it uses an external power brick, so at least that can be replaced when/if it fails.

I’ve quite happy with mine. Especially now that I have a template set.

At least the bass could be a good weapon to throw at the militia guys as they come down the driveway and I've run out of ammo.

At a high enough velocity, the TX-6 could do some damage.

If you mess with it, you can get it to do other things. It's sort of like a cat that wants to make Frippertronics. It's highly motivated but you can distract it for as long as you like.

More as a Proof-Of-Concept than actual music per se, I just whipped this off while sipping a beer. Just bass (Steinberger L-2) direct into Soma COSMOS direct into my audio interface, no other pedals or signal processing, and it's all live in real time, no "pre-seeding" of the loops or anything other than What You Hear Is What Happened. Basically just tried to distract the cat long enough for it to not veer into "ambient drone-y" territory.

ETA: I always stayed away from TE gear partly because of the stupid name. "Teenage Engineering" does not inspire confidence in me about the quality of their product.

I’m tempted by a few modules. More than I’d want to spend for many of them, but the company seems highly regarded in reviews.

Xaoc Devices

They have some fantastic unique modules. Some of it is galaxy brain stuff, some really straightforward to work with.

Drezno can be used in a mind-blowing variety of ways -- waveshaping, adding digital dirt, generating wonky rhythmic gates from an LFO, altering CV sequences, feedback patching to generate patterns of CV and gates. Each of the expanders for it adds a lot of other possibilities (wavetable lookup, bit flipping, a digital counter/clock divider).

Odessa sounds huge and unlike any other VCOs I've used. It makes additive synthesis approachable. It's also great for FM synthesis.

Katowice, aside from obvious shelving EQ uses or isolating bands to process them differently, works extremely well with the frequency, width or levels modulated by an LFO (for sweet phasing or tremolo) or audio (for AM or a sort of phase modulation).

Tallin is a nice compact VCA with great overdrive.

I have Tallin and it's really a nice overdrive as well as a nice VCA. Batumi is a great set of 4 LFOs, though I think Poti expands it a lot. I have and intend to sell Zadar. It's a brilliant module for complex modulation but I just cannot remember the button and knob combinations so it works but is not "fun" enough for me to stay in the rack.

Oh, and I played with a Belgrad for like half an hour on one of my pilgrimages to Schneider's and it sounded lovely. I almost bought it but at the time "didn't need another filter" (<--I know that phrase actually has no meaning in Euro).

The Steinberger does sound great! Did you leave it on granular the whole time? One of my favourite things to do in granular is mess with the blur and drive knobs to move it from swarmy to "stuck" and back again. But I'd really also like to be able to scrub the starting place in the waveform.

Also, important for @uglybassplayer -- there's a lot that the "drive" knob can do and it's all destructive.

Yeah, the one parameter I never touched on that excerpt was the Algorithm selector, it's on the largest Granular setting for the entire piece. But every other knob got a workout! (I need to remind myself to make more use of the Mix knob, especially for 100% wet settings so you don't hear the source material at all.)

Thanks for the comment about the Steinberger. I've owned that bass since 1982, and it still surprises me at how good it sounds nearly every time I pick it up.

Yeah, those were brilliant basses. People on here always talk about EMGs as "sterile" or whatever but they can also sound just perfectly recorded going right in. Depends on the instrument and pickup and settings, of course.

edit; Darryl Jenifer has EMG pups in his bass and the last thing I would say is that his tone is sterile. Punchy, warm, bass heavy…..you name it.

HC to reggae in a millisecond. pick and finger style. pffff less shopping and ready reviews , more playing.

As someone who generally struggles with beat construction in general, it certainly was not the best choice for my first drum machine. I found the workflow more of an impediment than a benefit.

Many people do amazing things with it. I am clearly not one of them.

Their pocket calculators didn't give me a good first impression, I pretty much ignore em now.

As someone who generally struggles with beat construction in general, it certainly was not the best choice for my first drum machine. I found the workflow more of an impediment than a benefit.

Many people do amazing things with it. I am clearly not one of them.

I have a good time with my Novation Circuit and Arturia DrumBrute, but those are both *relatively* straightforward - I agree that the Digitakt workflow is for a different frame of mind (which is a common complaint, I discovered after my purchase).
