Ambient Reverb/Delay/Loop

I'm sure this has been asked a million times which actually makes it harder to research sometimes.

Any suggestions on an ambient pedal where I can make haunting or heavenly noises while my buddy on guitar plays far out things? The catch being I only have room for one standard sized pedal. Probably would need reverb with 100% mix available, delay, as well as maybe a short loop/hold function.

Thanks!

Maybe the Zoom MS70 CDR, then?
Yeah, maybe. I always come back to that but I've owned a few of the MS pedals and other bigger Zoom multis at least 5-7 times or so and I just never really bond with them. I don't think they're bad tho.

I'm far more likely to use and keep a pedal that just has knobs. Maybe in this case a mode selector or something.

Also my bass board is sort of beloved with GR2 > Smoothie > C4 > The Elements and I kind of want to keep it all fancy for superficial reasons. I just picked up the C4 but was even a little apprehensive about adding the digitalness to the board on that one, still might find an analog synth I like.

The TC Electronics Flashback pedal has a lot of options in a small box and it's "mash" footswitch control is pretty wild.

It lets you hold the switch down with your foot and produce some crazy noises, which one could, if they were so inclined, use to shock the hell out of the band when everyone drops out, expecting a one-bar bass fill, and are instead subjected to the sound of an alien spaceship blasting off into hyperspace.

If you don't already have a Freeze pedal that would let you layer sounds without needing a full looper set up.

I'm a guitar player as well and absolutely love the HX stomp for all my modulation/reverb/delay needs live, my suggestion would be to get the stomp and a midi controller instead of the XL. You'll save space and get more versatility out of a rig especially if there are other midi pedals in your board.

Walrus Audio’s Fundamental Series Ambient reverb is cheap, sounds great and very easy to use.

Walrus SLO maybe. Or the OBNE dark star....

I have listened to a bunch of demos for a few hours and I am currently between the Slo and the Fundamental Ambient. Does the Fundamental Ambient do any regular reverb at all? Thoughts on Slo vs. FA in general?

Check out idiotbox effects

That have a few pedals that may be right up your alley, and they are affordable

This is definitely up my alley. You can use a digital delay with a good buffer/trails as a quasi-looper. I used the Strymon Dig V1 but now I'm using a Boss DD-7 with a Saturnworks tap tempo switch. The Way Huge Echo Puss is a great alternative (analog delay) bc it won't oscillate at high repeats and has tone control (think Carbon Copy bright). No tap tempo though.

At the 1.35 mark on "Sexy Dancer," I use the DD-7 and the EQD Hummingbird to create a pad for the guitar player.

On the reverb front, I totally agree about the Mr Black suggestion, and I lean towards the Supermoon Chrome bc it has brighter repeats and I play with flats and onboard tone almost all the way off.

The EHX Freeze is crucial here too. You can place it before delay/reverb to use as an ambient tool. E.g., stomp on the fuzz and phaser for a low F#, hit the Freeze, un-stomp the fuzz and phaser, stomp on the digital delay, use as pad or play over it, and if instead of the delay you go into reverb, it's pure ambient madness from docking spaceships to Jóhan Jóhansson-esque nightmare soundscapes. Imo, ymmv, etc.
